  1. I have a custom place style I use for census and I put the township or Civil District in the Detail field.
  2. Roles - Amending sentences

Just do ALL editing in the Master Tag Type list. That will globally do all your sentences.
  3. Roles - Amending sentences

Jeff, With the [CR:] at the end of the sentence, your footnote is going to be on the next line by itself. Best to put the carriage return at the beginning of the sentence.
  4. Edit Tag name. Wrong one changed

Looks like a bug. Add all the roles, then close the tag, then move them where you want them in the list.
  5. Roles - Amending sentences

If the roles are already created, then cut and paste is all that will work. If not, highlight the Son01 role, create Son02, and all you have to do is edit the 02 part.
  6. Adding sources and research tasks

Emy, To use John's utility to create the tags, you first have to create a txt file that is formated correctly. Examples are on John's website. To copy the tag within TMG, you just have to use Add>Copy Tag. YOu then open the tag, and put in the correct ID number.
  7. Adding sources and research tasks

No, but wouldn't it be nice. John Cardinals Utitilty can create mutiple tags, but not multiple tasks. If you create the tag and then attach the research task, then copy the tag, it will attach the task to the new tag too.
  8. WISHLIST

On the options menu, we can select Names or Abbreviations. If we select Names, then we can sort by Name or ID #. IF we select Abbreviations, we can sort by Repository ID, or Abbreviation. I'd like the option to print the Name, but sort by Abbreviation. I have my repositories set up so that the Abbreviation sorts them the way I want in the list, but I'd like to print the name, since that is where I put the full repository information.
  9. UK vs US version

Kathleen, A few years ago, I wanted my data to print in sort of a tabular output. Using the language feature, I was able to create sentences that would print so that they were in semi-columns. The language feature is one of the easist and lest used features of TMG. I think if more users played with it, they would see that it was not hard to do. I use English2 for my sentences, and they are written to explain each tag (like census) so that my non genealogy readers can not only read about their ancestors, but learn about the events and how they effected those ancestors. Some day I plan to write one that is more of a narrative format for easy reading without all the descriptive prose.
  10. Exporting to excel or word

I do use Word and Excel with TMG alot. However, I wouldn't buy them if they hadn't come with the computer. I use Excel because once the data is in Excel, I can then format it how I want from there.
  11. 28 characters

Terry, Here's the PV screen showing the tag EST-Administration of Estate. Unless TMG doesn't count capitals, spaces, and dashes as characters, that is 28 characters by my count.
  12. 28 characters

Terry, Lee has reported this (as per his message on TMG-L). Let's hope that we can keep the longer limit. I was running English2, a copy of English with some customizations.
  13. Replace not working

I can not get Replace to work in the Master Place list. Trying to change County Court Minutes to County Court Clerk Minutes. Places are repositories. Search finds them so I know I am using the right data field.
  14. Replace not working

Me again, It appears that repair is only working on those places that has the Standard place style Cheasa (my custom style). Any other place style, and TMG replace isn't recognizing the places.
  15. Replace not working

Okay, restored yesterdays backup. Here's a screen shot of the Master Place list. Notice that "Circuit Court Minute" is part of the Detail. I am trying to replace it with "Circuit Court Clerk Minute". It is saying No match found. This particular place is a repository, but I am having the same problem with almost all my places. The few that do work use my standard place style and have been in my database for a long time.
  16. Replace not working

Phil, I deleted the .CDX files and tried running TMG, but when it gets to rebuilding the repository dictionary, it says an error has occured and it shuts down. The sample is fine. I have a backup from yesterday, so I am going to restore it and see if the problem is in it too. It looks like I have some corrupted data in there somewhere. <SIGH>
  17. Replace not working

Phil, ] L2. I tried to see if VFI, Optimize etc would work and none did. It doesn't recognize the places. It's not just those that are repositories either. I tried to send you a screen shot, but it's telling me that my data tables are corrupt. I will play with it and see if I can get a screen shot for you. Maybe the data tables are my problem.
  18. Wishlist: A Wishlist Forum

I don't, just figure if I have figured out a way to get something to work, might as well share the tip. You make some good points, but I think any user should be able to ask for a wishlist item. If you limited it to certain users who would decide who they were? Bob? Wouldn't we rather he be busy working on the next update or version? A knowledgeble user may have used TMG for years and may not even use all the features that are available, must less desire to see new ones. Even items that can be done in the current version may not be obvious to all readers. And how to handle them can be done in many different ways that we all benefit from the shared use of how to do something? I am not apposed to another forum thread for wishlists, but I really think it ought to be open to all users. After all, someone who just bought the program may have done so to do a certain task, and thier wishlist may be something no one else would have thought of. And how can you need something you haven't thought of?
  19. WISHLIST

It would be so nice if the right click menu had the option to COPY tag. Many users use this option and have to create a custom toolbar just to get the COPY tag option. Having it on right click with it's own shortcut perhaps would be a wonderful option to TMG.
  20. WISHLIST

I can see your point. I don't use the last edited date, but if one did, I can see where the copy tag changing that for the person owning the tag could be a problem. Most of the time, I just want two or more copies of the same tag for the same person. For instance, I am copying my 1880CENSUS-Image Tag so that I can create a separate 1880CENSUS tag, so that I can control the printing of the census image. Good point though. Maybe if there was a way to not update the last edited date when I tag was copied, but when it was saved with the new ID number.
  21. WISHLIST

I always attach my research tasks to tags. If a person is a witness to a tag, then that task does not show in his research log. I would love to see ALL the tasks attached to a person show up in his research log. It has been suggested on TMG-L that those tasks be preceeded with a (w) and I am fine with that. Just so long as the research log showed all the tasks a person had and not just those attached to the person and the ones where the person is P1 or P2 to the tag.
  22. Wish List

Or the option to say IS RELATED TO by X number of generations. Then I could say I want everyone related to me by 3 generations. WOuld be faster than adding people and then their children and spouses, and then thiers etc.
  23. Mark, Another thing is I noticed that no matter how long my title is, in the MSL, the title field only shows 50 characters. I wonder if this has anything to do with your error?
  24. Mark, I am sure that one of the tech people will answer you soon, but just wanted you to know I can recreate it following your directions. I know that doesn't help much, but at least you know someone is listening.
  25. Corrupted backup path and .PJC file

Yup. Just wish I knew where I put the S-Z backup of all my images. Luckily I just made a backup to mom's TMG so I only lost a few months work of scanning if they had to wipe my harddrive (should find out next week-if not today). The more paranoid you are the better I say.
