What I did was change the colors in v8 to a bright yellow and bright pick so I'm immediately aware if I open the wrong version by mistake. Also both icons are on the quick start bar in Windows 7 and I know the right hand one if v9. Also hovering over the icon gives you the item tip identifying which is which.

Some of the font sizes in the TMG windows are larger in v9 than in v8. I have compared all preference settings in v8 to v9 and they are the same. See screen captures below. Note difference in font size on the custom tool bar on the detail view in the background. Note the larger font sizes in the labels and data in the right hand portion of the Preference screen as well as the larger font sizes on the buttons at the bottom. These larger fonts in some cases will required me to adjust my layouts. I find no preference settings that control these font sizes.

Well, the problem seems to have corrected itself. I made no changes to TMG but there for awhile yesterday there was definitely a difference in font sizes as can be seen by my screen capture posts. Will report if it occurs again.

I don't know use the 5/6 method of window sizing...but I notice this evening after not working with TMG for about four hours that I no longer have the problem as illustrated in the images in my original post...Will check in the morning and report again.

Why are some names listed under Father, Mother, and Spouse in Given Name, Surname format and others Surname, Given Name? This is the first time I have ran into this... Closing and reopening the Pick List did not correct the problem. However, after moving around in the Pick List, closing and reopening a few times, the problem corrected itself and I cannot reproduce it... See attachment:

The subject appeared in the right format...I'm sure it's a display problem as I check several individuals and there was nothing wrong with their record. I did not change formats. It just occurred out of the blue. In my many years of using TMG it's the first time I've seen it happen.

List of citations... Filter: Source number = (equals) [?] When you run the report it will ask for the source number...

Open the Add Person window...the Setup button is in the lower left corner of the screen

"in", "at", or blank preposition is determined by the setting in the Report Options-Places tab for the entire report. If you do not want a preposition for one particular tag then place an space in the location variable in the sentence template for that tag, i.e. "< L>". Anything you place in the variable will override the use of the default preposition, i.e. "<near L>", "<from l>", etc.

To add an existing person as a mother or father note the ID# of the mother and/or father...go to the detail view for the child, double click on the Father or Mother label at the top of the detail view, enter the ID# in the parent field...do same for other parent...

No...the addition of any death tag to an individual regardless of the data in the tag indicates that the individual has deceased and the living flag is automatically change to N as it has been in all previous versions...

If by tiny Memo screen you mean the memo box in the tag when you open the tag, you can make it full screen by pressing F7 or clicking on the Memo button above the box.

If by chance the .sqz file is not a TMG backup it might be a UFT (Ultimate Family Tree) backup which also used a .sqz. If it is a UFT backup you can import it into TMG by using the Import Wizard and selecting as the source Ultimate Family Tree backup.

When I open a inidvidual narrative report definition screen inside the book manager, the "Add" button is grayed out. Anyway, I'm Not sure how this would accomplish adding an individual narrative for a different person at a different sequence in the book. Am I correct in asuming that the book is generated with reports in the sequence in which they appear on the scren in the book manager? You can't create a new report definition from within the book manager...you can only edit and existing one...You have to create each report and save outside of the book manager. Yes reports appears in the sequence they appear on screen in the book manager.

I have book definitions that have multiple copies of the same report. Can you further define the problem you're having? If you want to put individual narrative reports for different persons you have to define an individual report for each person.

I am using Win7 Home Premium. Joanne I think I have figured out what is happening...Starting with the PE unlink and an individual in the Person View, select the Mother of that person (don't double click to change to her, just make her the selected individual)...Link the PE to other windows...select and individual in the PE, change to the Tree view...the previously select mother is the focus because she was the last individual selected. When you selected and individual from the PE and that person appears in the Detail view there is no individual in the view selected therefore when you change to Tree or Family view it uses the last selected individual which in this case was the mother of the previous focus person. After selecting a person in the PE click on the focus person of the Detail view and then change to Tree or Family view and it will work right. I don't think this is a bug, but is working as designed....

I agree with Virginia...it is working as expected for me also...I tried it with and without the PE linked to the other windows

I offset the text of the obituary with [LIND:] [:LIND]

I have found that I experience a slow down editing tags when the individual is not related to the subject of the Automatic Relationship Tag and that tag is active. Turning off the Automatic Relationship tag during periods of heavy editing speeds things up. To turn of, right click in the Details window and uncheck Automatic Relationship tag near bottom of list....

The < > are conditional brackets...if no data is entered in the element then the element will not print in the output. If there is no conditional brackets and the element if blank "Unknown" will print in the output.

You don't import a v7 project into a v7 project...you want to "Restore" the backup of the project placing it wherever you want it and then merge it with the existing project if you wish. See Terry's site for information on merging project and datasets at http://tmg.reigelridge.com/merging.htm

Liliana, sorry, I know of no way to save these filters. What I have seen from the Beta and its description is that the Tag Type is color coded, e.g. set the Marriage Tag Type to special background and font colors. If you have Preferences // Program Options // Tag Box set to "Show witnessed events", then that witnessed event will show but have its tag type "Name" in the "Type" column of the Details window displaying those special colors. At least it appears those colors only affect that one column of the Type name for the event. If you have Preferences // Current Project Options // Colors set so that Witnessed events have a special color scheme, then it seems the Date column will still use those "witnessed" colors. Thus that Date column would still indicate it is a witnessed event. However, one will have to wait for V8 to know exactly what it will look like. Glad to hear the Associates window idea is useful to you, In v8 if the individual is a witness to a marriage it appears with "Witness" in the type column shaded in the color assigned to the marriage tag, the date column shaded the witness color, and in the Name/Place column the (role name); Marriage: (names of the individuals); (location) At least that how it appears in my test....

Look up the topic "exhibits" in the Help....

Only images attached to individuals can be set to primary...images attached to tags cannot be set to primary...

Try using the History tag or create your own custom tag in the History Group. Tags in the History Group do not have principals, only witnesses....
