Granddaughter to the rescue! Her granddaughter has very good computer skills and could easily follow your directions, which fixed the issue. Thanks for your help.

Peggy,
Who did you have print it?
-
Thanks, Jim,
I figured that we needed to delete the program files folder, but hadn't realized that the app.ini files had been modified.
No, this is not an undertaking for a 90 year-old with limited computer skills and shaky hands, but that's what we have. I'll see if I can find a solution to that.

I got a call from a 90-YO lady that has installed on a new PC, and TMG opens as the UK version. I think that means she managed to use a UK installer.
I had her download and install the US version, but it still opens as the UK version. So I had her uninstall and then install again with the US installer and it still opens as the UK version. Does that mean that the files that cause TMG to open as UK didn't get removed by the uninstall?
How to get back to the US version??

Peggy,
I'm afraid Virginia is no longer able to help you on this. You may find the pages by Robin Lanacraft on this subject helpful. The one on printing is on my website, at

You're welcome, Peggy.

Peggy,
It's well hidden. You right-click on the box on the chart, and choose "Detail Properties." In the Components dialog that opens, select the one starting with "Text" that you want to edit. There will be separate lines for each line of text in the chart box. Then click the Properties button. In the dialog that now opens click the "Text" tab, which includes a field that contains the text that you can edit. Repeat for each line of text in the chart box.
-
Peggy,
As I recall, you can also copy an existing box, place it where you want, then edit the data in it to fit the new person. Editing the connecting lines is a bit tricky. My articles on charts at https://tmg.reigelridge.com/Charts.htm may help, especially the one on Editing linked in the third bullet near the bottom of the page.

I saw that on TMG-list.

I suspect that you have TMG set to look for updates and/or messages, both of which require it to access the WG server.
To fix this, I suggest:
1. Start TMG with your Internet connection off.
2. Open Preferences and on the Program Options > Startup and Exit tab, set both "Check the web sit for an update every" and "Check for Messages every" fields to zero.
After that TMG should start normally with the Internet Connection enabled.

Paul,
The most common reasons a serial number fails to unlock are:1. The number is mis-typed. It's long and difficult to type without errors, so it's best to save it as text so you can cut and paste it into the unlock screen.2. You have changed email address, and are entering your current email address. You must enter your email and name the way it was used when you purchased the serial number.3. The serial number is for a different version of TMG, for example TMG 7 or TMG 8. Are you sure the number you are entering is for the correct version of TMG? -
You should be able to download on another computer, say at a friend's home or a library, and put it on a thumb drive. Then copy it from the thumb drive to your computer.
If you have installed TMG 7 from a CD, you may not be able to open your Project even if you can unlock it. If you had installed any updates on your previous installation that involved a modification to the file system the Project will likely not open on the older version installed from a CD.
-
You do not need an Internet connection to unlock TMG.
If it says your credentials are invalid you have one of these issues:
- Using a serial number for a different version of TMG
- Entering the serial number manually and making a mistake
- Using a different email address than the one that you used when you obtained the license
- Using a different name than the on used when you obtained the license
Why can't you download the installer?
If you have credentials for TMG7 downloading TMG8 will not work. You can download TMG9 and buy credentials for that if you want.

Grady,
This filter with a List of People report, or in the Project Explorer, seems too work:
Mother-Adopted Child ID <> Does not equal 0 OR
Mother-Step Child ID <> Does not equal 0 OR
Father-Adopted Child ID <> Does not equal 0 OR
Father-Step Child ID <> Does not equal 0 End

Grady,
It depends entirely on how you have entered them in your database. How would you recognize a step-child or adopted child if you were looking at them in TMG?

According to the reports on the TMG list, this issue with Trend is not related to installation, but continues every time you use TMG. The user who first reported the issue says he is in conversation with Trend and they are working on the issue, but at last report have not fixed it. They say the issue is not just with TMG , but also impacts a few other programs.
You may want to read the posts on the TMG list to understand what is going on. At least some of the posts have the subject "Trend Micro Security software interference".
You can access the TMG List at https://tmg-l.groups.io/g/main

I'm afraid I can't help you with this issue, but you might find help if you post on the TMG list on IO groups. There has been discussion there on similar issues with Trend Micro Security software and TMG, among other programs.
-
After you do that, you need to fix the "Path" issues as described in my article at https://tmg.reigelridge.com/new-computer-version.htm
-
Ed,
You may find Robin Lamacraft's article on my website helpful. It's at https://tmg.reigelridge.com/Robin-saving.htm
As an alternative, another user told me he used the printing service of https://ancestryprinting.com/ and was happy with the results. They can print directly from the VCF file.

Well, maybe I cheated. <g>
I gave a presentation to the RUG last month on Journal options, so have just studied up on all of them.
-
Lee,
How do you ask the report to abbreviate a country? The only option I see is to abbreviate a state or province.
-
I agree, Jim. I've moved it.
-
Thanks, Eric. I'll post a note on my webpage mentioning them. Did you have to make any special settings to keep VCF from braking the chart into 8.5 x 11 pages?
-
Thanks for the info, Eric. I didn't know about them. I'd love to hear how it worked for you. Also, do you have to do anything special, like install a specific printer driver on your computer, to get VCF to produce the chart in the width and length you want?
