  1. conflicting origins

Thanks Terry. I now have reading to do to brush up on exclusions as I have never used them, but that is my burden to bear. I do have a related issue that may have the same solution: I have ancestors named James, his wife Ellen and their son Lewis. Found who I thought was them in the 1892 NY State and 1900 US Censuses (sans Lewis but still in NY). Promptly entered sources, exhibits and data into TMG. Then I found them in the 1900 US Census in Pennsylvania (still sans Lewis). Concurrent representation in both US Censuses is not possible. So I now have a 1892 NY State Census, 1900 US Census for NY, and a 1900 US Census for PA for the same couple. Assuming that one of the locations (NY or PA) is correct, I assume I would remove the incorrect data once confirmation is found. Or does the previous answers still hold true? Thanks
  2. conflicting origins

Thanks Michael. I'm going to be consistent and remove the references.
  3. conflicting origins

I tend to be conservative so i lean towards entering data in order to, as you say, "document your conclusions about the most likely correct information about your ancestors". Based on that, I shall remove said data. Thanks
  4. editing a role

TMG 9.05 I entered a role for my subject's mother and forgot to make the sex 'female', resulting in the role being flagged as 'male'. I tried canceling out of the tag screen hoping to undo the mistake, but unfortunately it did not. How can I correct this?
  5. editing a role

Terry - Thanks. that did the trick. Problem solved. Michael - I added the role of 'Mother' as a witness to a residence tag and when I went to change the sex from 'any' to 'Female', my hand slipped and made it 'mail' instead. Terry's solution did the trick. Michael - Since I have your attention, I want to thank you for your tips on custom tags, specifically the ones you suggested (Manuscripts, Correspondence, and MisC.). I just got around to working on them this afternoon and they really helped.
  6. editing a role

when I tried to close the tagged definition window, I got a popup message saying that the sex of the role (mother) did not match the sex of the principle (female).
  7. I want to send family group sheets to relatives for the to fill out and return. However, when I create them, the FGS contains current info, but does not list blank fields for the recipient to fill in the data. For example, for married relative 1 whose only known fact is the birth date, the FGS will list the birth date, list the spouse name, but does not provide tags for marriage date, children names and birth dates, etc. Is there a way to include tags for missing data to make it easier for the recipient to complete? If not, how do other users handle this situation. I will creating 21 forms so adding the tags via word processor for each one would be tedious. Thanks
  8. Data entry via Family Group sheet

Terry That worked perfectly for all but one of my relatives. Once I added a blank 'divorce' tag to the one person with a divorce along with a sort date and it became exactly what I wanted. Many Thanks.
  9. Data entry via Family Group sheet

Terry - Thanks for responding. I had already tried that and the results were the same as when that box was unchecked. Do the tags have to exist in the individual's records, even if there was no data associated with them, to appear in the FGS?
  10. TMG 9.05 Wondering how to handle this: My primary computer has a second, larger 27" display that I use for TMG, and have a custom layout for. I am adding TMG to my laptop that just has a 15" display. I assume, that when I restore my backup on the laptop, the custom layout will also be restored. Are there any options to avoid this OTHER than making a backup without the custom layout? Thanks.
  11. Layout configuration on second computer

Update. Think I've got it. changed project path to c:\TMG Projects\Gleason Ancestry.....it seems to work. Definitely works from Macbook to iMac. Taking a break before I try the reverse. Thanks for your help Jim.
  12. Layout configuration on second computer

Just to be clear, it is not necessary for all of the other folders (exhibits, reports, timelines, backups. etc.) to be grouped with the project folder. I can keep the other folders where they are and just move the project folder, correct?
  13. Layout configuration on second computer

Sorry, I am running 9.05. I mis-typed.. I was looking at my path from within windows and noticed that under 'my documents' is folders for 'The Master Genealogist v8' and all associated sub-folders. Am I recalling correctly that there was a reason not to use 'my documents' with TMG? Or is my memory playing tricks.
  14. Layout configuration on second computer

Running into a problem. System: Computer 1: iMac with Parallels 11 and windows 7 Computer 2: MacBook Pro with parallels 11 and Windows 7. TMG v9.04 Can run, backup and restore from MacBook Pro to iMac with no issues using original paths to my external drive. Can restore to MacBook pro from iMac with NO external drives, but I have to massage project paths on both. Takin Jim's advice above, I duplicated the project path on my Macbook Pro to my iMac. (\\mac\home\documents\The Master Genealogist v9\....(appropriate subdirectories for backup, exhibits, etc.). My main project path is: \\mac\home\documents\The Master Genealogist v9\projects\Gleason Ancestry\ Problem: when I restore on my iMac, I get a message stating that my project path is invalid. What am I messing?
  15. Layout configuration on second computer

I just did my first backup and restore between old (master) computer and new (travel) computer per Jim's suggestion above. However, since my file/path setup is different on each computer, I had to change the project. backup, report. and exhibit locations when doing the restore to the destination computer. Is there anyway to maintain the 'default' paths for each computer? Or will the project that did the backup be the new defaults and therefore have to be changed for every restore?
  16. I have two documents for my dad. Document one is a page from his HSNyearbook. Document two is his application for ww2 honorable discharge compensation request. I did not see any source types of a similar nature in master source types. What source type can be used, or if none, what do I need to do to create one?
  17. Entering new source types

Thanks again. I definitely will try to use your transcript tag, although there is just something meaningful in seeing the actual handwriting of my ancestors. Makes it even more personal.
  18. Entering new source types

Thank you, Michael. That helps a lot. The documents consist of a wide range of different types, from evaluations of the family, references from teachers and doctors, and correspondence between mother, school and former student. How much importance should I attach to making these documents exhibits? Or, how important are exhibits and how are they used. I have been big on having all sources be included as exhibits, but I wonder if it would be worth it, as I would have to scan them as jpg files then combine the mutil-page ones into one jpg image via my photo editing program. Doable but lotta work.
  19. Entering new source types

I have documents (application, references, correspondence (both from person's mother and the person himself), etc.) obtained from a still existing college my ancestor was indentured to in the 1920's. These documents contain a wealth of information that both confirmed facts already known and provided new information not previously known. My question is: How do I source this? What template should I use? Thanks.
  20. Handling PDF documents

I am scanning old documents into PDF with the intention of adding as exhibits and started wondering.... Is this a good idea? what would the shortcomings be? what other options are there that I should be considering? Thanks
  21. Printing to JPG

John - thanks for the info, works like a charm
  22. Printing to JPG

I looked at ss and missed the option. I'll look again now that I know it is there somewhere. Thanks
  23. Printing to JPG

Tried all of that. Even had discussions with Glenn Gilbert, the parallels guru. I've narrowed it down to a missing windows 7 file due to the error message I get, but the solution is to drastic for me to attempt. I've developed workarounds for all of my printing (except now of course VCF).
  24. Printing to JPG

Yes, I have the wholly Genes PDF printer installed and the port is set to null. Your chart does appear in the dropdown list and I have been selecting it from there. I have other printing issues that have not been resolved (tho the forum has tried hard) so that may be my problem.
