  1. Printing to JPG

Terry/Virginia Thanks to you both for your efforts. Still not able to produce a chart, even tho I kept getting 'program not responding' messages. Tried running for about an hour, still nothing. Virginia, will look at the links you point d me to.
  2. Printing to JPG

Good point, one I should have thought of. Will try again tomorrow.
  3. Printing to JPG

Virginia I tried creating the chart, but after 15-20 minutes of processing, I get the dreaded "Visual Chart Form has stopped responding" message. I checked the options you had set but could not really determine items that I could be causing undue precessing so I left them as selected. any thoughts?
  4. Printing to JPG

Okay, problem solved. I checked the file locations within TMG preferences and found the my default path is slightly different than the norm (I am running TMG under Parallels, hence the diff.) copied your file into that location and it now appears in TMG reports list as you had described. I will take look at it later and see if I can make it work for me. Thanks.

I'm sorry Virgnia, I just don't see it. I looked at your file and did not see any path info.
  6. Printing to JPG

Oops, my bad - That is where I put it, I justI left off the last folder: c:\users\'username'\my documents\the master genealogist v9\Configuration files
  7. Printing to JPG

Virginia I am not familiar with VCF so I must be missing a step as I do not see your chart in the list of VCF charts. Here is what I did: Copied your file to : c:\users\'username'\my documents\the master genealogist v9\ From there I was lost. Was not sure how and could not figure out how to display the VCF list of charts. Tried via TMG and VCF.
  8. Printing to JPG

Virginia It is and I got it. Will take look. Thanks
  9. Printing to JPG

Virginia - your comment about one page charts leads me to believe I am being unrealistic in what I hope to do: I want a quick and dirty descendant chart that I can show on my monitor and scroll thru. I guess the digital equivalent of a wall chart without the fancy stuff. I was thinking that saving the chart to jpg (or pdf as Jim suggested), would bypass the page size more I read into your 'one page chart' comment, I am now thinking that is not possibles? I was hoping for minimal interaction with VCF at this time to avoid cranial overload.

Jim - thanks for the tip.
  11. Missing Source

I created a new source item for a Legal document yesterday (ID 97). However, that source nor number is listed in the master source list. I can, however, add it as a citation by entering the number and it appears in the person view. I created a new source today, and it was assigned ID 98. I checked for blanks in the names in case i failed to give it one and I checked for duplicate names in case I entered the wrong title (desperate, I know), but both came up empty. why is the source ID 97 invisible in the master source list, but still 'visible' enough to be added as a citation and have a new source assigned the next ID available? Can I get it back?
  12. Printing to JPG

Virginia I did have images included, but excluding them made no difference. The program still aborts before processing is complete.
  13. Printing to JPG

Don't think so. I'll check and try it again if I was.
  14. Missing Source

    That did it. Thanks.
  15. Printing to JPG

It fails while processing, before I see anything at all.
  16. Entering new source types

Thanks. I'll have to study them but it does increase my options.
  17. Entering new source types

Thanks. I'll take a look at them. Sounds like they will work.
  18. Handling PDF documents

Thanks. Since my primary goal is preservation, not having them as exhibits is not an issue.
  19. Up til now, I have always tied exhibits to individuals, such as including a jpg of a census form with the individual listed. I learned about tagging exhibits to events through Terry Reigle's article in the RUG newsletter. When I tried it, I did not work as I would have thought. I expected that the exhibit would be shown for every person listed for the event. Maybe I missed this in the article, but how is tagging an exhibit to an event supposed to work?
  20. Exhibits tied to events

Maybe I am not understanding the concept or my expectations are not what they should be. My thought was that when set to an event, the exhibit would appear for all persons associated with that event. My great grand father, his wife, and son were listed in the 1860 NY state census. While in the person view for my GGF, I created an 1860 NY census tag; listed wife and son as witnesses with roles of 'wife' and 'with parents' respectively, and linked a copy of the 1860 state register to that event. However, while the exhibit shows up in my GGF exhibit list (person focus), the exhibit does not show up for his wife and son, unless I make the focus an event, in which case all my event exhibits appear, regardless of who are (or are not) listed as witnesses. Obviously, I am having a disconnect.
  21. Handling PDF documents

Terry Thanks for your helpful reply. My primary goal was to preserve the documents, since they were found in my Mother's files in pretty ragged condition. My secondary goal was to link them to my ancestors. It is this goal that appears to be a bad idea. I'll just create a source for them and not include them as exhibits. I am a member of RUG and I have read your article, which I found informative. It lead me to a question which I will post in another topic.
  22. Years ago, I misread a name on a parent, citing the person a male instead of female (father instead of mother) . This person has tags, events and witnesses cited with (now) her. I've been revisiting past research, which is how I discovered and confirmed the error. Question: is there an easier way to make th corrections, other than adding a parent, redirecting the associated events and witnesses, then deleting the old parent?
  23. correcting parental tag

Thanks. I was luck in that only three children and one census record was involved so it was easy. Years ago, in my more rookie phase, I took ancestry's reading of the name verbatim. If I had checked the sex on the form then AND taken a closer look at the name, my error would have been avoided. This is why I am rechecking previous work with a more experienced (not younger) eye. Thanks again
  24. I am trying to print a FGS. I can display the preview but I cannot print to neither printer nor PDF. I checked my windows settings, and my printer is set as default. I checked the printer settings in TMG and it also shows my printer as default. I tried setting windows to a different printer but still cannot print. what else should I try? Thanks.
  25. Good. At least I did that right.
