  1. custom layout file

Virginia I do not have \appdata\roaming\ as part of my path.
  2. custom layout file

Thanks Jim. Read the help topic and found the files on my old pc (XP). Copied the files to (Win7): \Users\username\my documents\TMG7\. The lay out did not appear in the drop down list of the layout 'box' from the toolbar. Then I tried copying them to the configuratoin_files foldr under TMG 7using the above path. Still nothing. What am I missing?
  3. VCF Customized Composite Charts

IE 8 Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab > Multimedia > Enable automatic image resizing - deselect The Multimedia section is quite a way down the list so scroll down until you find it. Wow!!! So easy and worked like a champ. Big attachments look and act great, again, like on old computer. If you ever visit in New Orleans, may I take you to lunch? No expiration date on offer. Thank you so much, I echo Mike (without the lunch offer-don't live in an exotic locale). It was easy. Much thanks.
  4. VCF Customized Composite Charts

Virginia - I experienced the same problem as Mike (forwhat it is worth). I am using IE 8 with Win7 so it might still be browser related - don't know.
  5. TMG Install with windows 7

oops - I guess not. Thanks
  6. TMG Install with windows 7

Not at all -- try rcj_nospam_@charter.net with the appropriate elisions. I'll be happy to help if I can. formerprof Treid twice - address was rejected.
  7. TMG Install with windows 7

Do you mind if I contact you offline? I have a couple of questions about virtual XP which I suspect will off topic for this forum. Thanks
  8. TMG Install with windows 7

Thanks. Just made my decision easier.
  9. TMG Install with windows 7

Thanks. Another question: Has anyone tried running TMG on win7 in XP Mode? If so, has that solved the issues TMG has with 64bit operating systems?
  10. mtDNA Log

(TMG 7.04. WinXP sp3 32bit) I assumed, that when recording mtDNA information, I would enter the Cambridge Reference Sequence, modifying as needed based on my mutations. However, the results of my HVR2 test include two insertions, which makes the relevant sequence string too long for the space provided in the mtDNA log (the insertions happen to be in the same string, but one insertion requires more sapce than provided). Am I using the DNA log as it was intended or should I be recording the mtdna information some othe way? Thanks.
  11. mtDNA Log

Thanks Jim. It does make for easier entery.
  12. I am relunctantly shopping for a new desktop PC and have discovered that dual/quad processors is the new norm. I am aware of software (and some hardware) issues with 64bit Operating Systems, specifically TMG and Windows Vista64. Is anyone aware of any hardware/software issues associated with dual/quad processors and 32 bit operating systems (I will be downgrading to XP)? I have two scanners, three external hard drives, and various other hardware devices, plus lots of software (including TMG 7.04) and am hesitant to proceed without some idea of what to expect. Of course, the sales personnel all say no problem (but they do have some bias as they want the sale). Any advice, thoughts, or other input much appreciated. Thanks.
  13. OT - multiple processor PCs

It's a non-issue. It's also a bad time to be going backwards in regard to the operating system with Win7 coming out late this year. With computers, it's always a good idea to look ahead and move ahead. Thanks Jim. Glad multi-processor PCs are non issues. Reason I was wanting to downgrade to XP was: Doubtful my current PC will last until Win 7 is released; and when it is released to see if I needed to upgrade my software.
  14. mtDNA Log

TMG 7.04. I am probably trying to either enter to much information or entering the wrong information, but.... I just received my HVR1 mtDNA results from FamilytreeDNA, which has 57 sets of base sequences. However, I am only able to enter 50 of these sets into the DNA log, using the FamilyTreeDNA format. There are what appear to be additional blank spaces below my last entry but I cannot access them to enter the data. Am I doing something wrong? If so, what should I be doing? Also, the link labeled "More infromation about this test:" on the Familytree DNA mtDNA data entry screen does not work. Again, is it me? Thanks
  15. mtDNA Log

    My problem has been resolved.
  16. mtDNA Log

You are correct in my mis-naming the template. Just followed your instructions for WinXP and extracted the file into the two locations - I still cannot enter past row 50. Just followed your instructions for WinXP and extracted the file into the two locations - I still cannot enter past row 50. As a followup to my inabiltiy to add data above 50 rows, I tried adding a new mtdna and still ran into the 50 row limit.

  18. I am trying (still) to create a gedcom file for posting to a DNA site. I created a focus group of the indivduals I want included: IDing the individual then adding spouses and, in this case, descendents. I then ran the list of people report with the dataset as secondary output. However, when I view the dataset population, the relationships are not defined, i.e., my ancester and his wife are in the dataset, but not as spouses. when viewed in tree mode, only one or two people are displayed, instead of the ancestry line I'd expect. Is this normal, or did I do (or failed to do) check some box to cause this. Thanks
  19. Dataset via focus group

Children have not appeared in the Family view since version 4. Since version 5 the children are in their own window. I don't understand. The tree view has always been just ancestors of the focus person - descendants are not part of that view. If you want to see children you have to make the Children window part of your layout. Now I understand. I've never use either view before - just trying to verify my data. Problem solved - user error. Thanks
  20. Dataset via focus group

I misspoke in my orignall post - I apologize. Here is what I see. (Again TMG 7.04, Win xp sp2 32 bit) In the person view, I see all the relationships and tags for my great grandfather, which is as far back as I can go in this line. I see all of marraige, birth and death tags for the great grandparents and their children. In the family view, I only see my greatgranfather and his wife with a note saying that ther are 8 children. No other names are dipslayed. Page is 1 of 1. In the tree view, again there are only the two individuals, no descendants. The next tab is greyed out. Page is 1 of 1. Hope this clarifies.
  21. Accent Manager

TMG 7.04, Win xp 32bit I have (had) three accent definitions defined, one each for three ancestral lines, whcih I created a looong time ago. In trying to remember the colors I assigned, I went to the Accent Manager/accent definition screen and found only one listed in accent conditions window. I also realized that all definitions are listed in the 'selected accent conditions' drop down menu near the bottom of the accent definition screen. But I cannot get the conditions I had previously set to display. What am I doing wrong - or did I not set the conditions like I thought. Thanks
  22. Accent Manager

Thanks for the replies. I must not have saved the accents as they just were not around. Luckily, I only had three total so recreation was nothing, otherwise my screams would have been heard on ex-planet Pluto.
  23. Accent Manager

Yes, I loaded the only accent file listed. Would the definitions be saved altogether, or would they have been saved one for each line? Based on how this thread is going, I ahve to assume I either failed to save the latest or lost a definition file.
  24. I created a focus group of my ancesters that I plan on exporting via gedcom to familytreeDNA. I ran the list of people report to view the result and I am somwhat satisfied although I'm sure I'll have to do some tweaking. Is ther anyway to control the sort order other than ID, surname and given name? I would prefer sort by date of birth because I would like the output to be displayed in tree view afer uploading. Also, is there anyway to view the focus group other than list of peole report? Or do I have to send the report to another project for additional viewing and tweaking? Or, am I approaching this the wrong way? Thanks.
  25. focus group of ancesters

Thanks Terry and Jim. I'm sure I'll have more questions as I delve deeper into this. I'm trying to include only bare bones data in the gedcom, plus I've never created one before (come to think of it - never created another dataset either).
