  1. The Check for Duplicate People function has a "Filters" screen. However, only "All People" and "This Person" are the only available options. Everything else is greyed out. Can you tell me how to enable the "and check for duplicates among" section? Thanks!
  2. Moved Field up --> Apply Received popup error message: Operator/operand type mismatch. 51 CUSACCENTMANAGERMGETCOLOR Had to Abort. Ran a Maintenance --> Validate File Integrity. Closed app. Restarted. Same issue. Any ideas? This has always worked before in 7.0
  3. Has anyone actually used the export/import of the MSL? I'd like to but don't know how to open the .xso file? Tried Notepad and that didn't work. Any ideas?
  4. FamilySearch Certified

FWIW, I would like to see version 8 FamilySearch Certified. My best researcher friend just bought one of the competing products specifically because it was FamilySearch Certified, even though she has a copy of TMG. Honestly, I don't see how TMG will be able to compete for long without doing so. Yes, right now the NewFamilySearch is limited to LDS Church members, but it will be opened up worldwide in the near future. And a totally agree with efcharvet's comments, and do think that we should be able to have everything in ONE program. Why not?
  5. Drag and drop exhibit files

Interestingly enough, I used to be able to select from Windows Explorer many images and drag them to the exhibits window with absolutely no problem -- that was pre version 7. Now I can only do as you describe - 1 at a time. What changed?
  6. LDS Familysearch

I would like to second that request! I just viewed how RootsMagic integrates with the New FamilySearch and was totally blown away. I have loved, used and recommended TMG since the very first, but I'd really like to see this feature added. Is it on the drawing board?
  7. Exhibit sources

I frequently get images from FindAGrave.com. Those images are taken by volunteers. When I attach the images to a person in TMG, I do so as an external file and add the information from the website citing both the contributor of the cemetery inscription and the person that took the picture in the Citation Detail of the Source. Hope this helps. Just to be clear, do you have FindAGrave.com as a single source in your Master Source list, just changing the Citation Detail for each image? Or, do you have each image a separate source? I do use a FindAGrave.com as a single source and change the CD for each image. Unfortunately, I'm not one of those really good researchers that makes an individual source for each. I admire those people :rolleyes
  8. Trying to merge a lot of duplicated people. I know that this normally is easy (at least in the past, but I haven't done this in 7.0 until now). Here's a sample of people in the Project Explorer: Vernon Charles BLATCHLEY (7369) (1851-1925) Vernon Charles BLATCHLEY (7370) (1851-1925) Vernon Charles BLATCHLEY (7375) (1851-1925) Vernon Charles BLATCHLEY (14324) (1851-1925) I've tried the following configurations and can't get the result screen to bring all of these people up as duplicates to #7369: Summary: default Surnames: have same soundex or have identical spelling Given: have same soundex or have identical spelling and with and without Evaluate first name only checked Birth Dates: are not evaluated Death Dates: are not evaluated Parents' GivenDates: are not evaluated Filters: Start with This Person: 7369 The best that I've gotten is another "Vernon B. Blatchley". What am I missing here?
  9. Exhibit sources

  10. Since I upgraded my PC to Vista Premium Home about a year ago, I've noticed that there is quite a lag in "saving" changes in TMG. I have about 33,000 people in the main database -- I know others have a lot more, so I don't think this is the issue. What happens is that I edit info about an event or a name, click the Save button and see the little Vista circle going round and round -- maybe for 5-15 seconds, but I don't remember having to wait that long in XP. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm running AMD 2.20Ghz, 4G RAM 32-bit. TMG is on my C drive, which is pretty full. The database is on another drive, same machine, which has lots of space. Any recommendations would be most appreciated! Jenny
  11. Full Footnote - "unknown repository"

Thank you, thank you! It wasn't marked as primary. Also good observation about making the repository as optional. I'm trying to think of why, if there is no other repository, the citing would not include the single one and it's location, etc. I can see the necessity of having a primary designation if there is more than on repository.
  12. In the Output form for a source to an event, I have: [TITLE], [RECORD TYPE], [REPOSITORY]<, [RECORD INFO]>, [REPOSITORY ADDRESS]< [FILM]> When I go to Full footnote Preview, I get the following: 1860 Ohio Census and Index, Originals, unknown repository, unknown repository address I assume that the info on the repository comes from what I put in under Attachments --> Repositories for this source. I have put in: 243 FHL This refers to the repository in the Master Repository List: Repository # 243 Abbreviation: FHL Name -ID #: 0 Name - Other: Family History Library Detail: 35 N West Temple Street City: Salt Lake City State: Utah Postal: 84150 So I am wondering why it shows "unknown repository, unknown repository address" in the Full footnote Preview? Any thoughts? Thanks - jenealogy
  13. In years past I have been able to create what I call a hard return in a source type. I add the following as the first line: [CATALOGING] recorded as Extract #[EXTRACT #] Normally adding that would result in this as the source type: [CATALOGING] recorded as Extract #[EXTRACT #] < [DATE]> [RECORD TYPE], [REPOSITORY ADDRESS]<, [RECORD INFO]>, [REPOSITORY]< [FILM]><, [CD]>. What I want is that line, followed by a forced return which would look like this: [CATALOGING] recorded as Extract #[EXTRACT #] < [DATE]> [RECORD TYPE], [REPOSITORY ADDRESS]<, [RECORD INFO]>, [REPOSITORY]< [FILM]><, [CD]>. I can not remember how I did this and have tried everything, Ctrl-Enter, Alt-Enter... any ideas?
  14. Tom, I scan everything using 300dpi and they look just fine. As far as numbering goes, I enter the source into TMG, then take that number and add 4 digits to the end. So for example, the MSL# is 3633. I scan every document from that source and put it into a "Scanned documents" folder. Then using and freeware called Rename4U, I select all of that sources scanned documents (I usually scan lots of documents at one time using the Automatic feed on my HP Officejet 5610 All-in-one) and tell Rename4U to automatically number all of the documents 33633 with an additional 4 digits starting with 0001 (or wherever I left off). Every document that I scan from that source is then 36330001, 36330002, 36330003, etc. I file all of these exhibits in a "PICS" folder and have found that I need to have folders for the 1,000's, like 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 (as in the numbers of the sources from MSL). For Word Documents -- notes that I keep for each source, I do basically the same, name them by the MSL #. Hope this helps.
  15. I am also getting the "not responding" and then it "springs to life" in Vista Home Premium; 4G RAM; Duo core 2.2Ghz - not a slouchy PC. My TMGW (Gold) has 33,660 names in it. Any suggestions about things to do to improve performance? Thanks! Jenny
