Gedcom no export with 2 principals?
Jim Byram replied to arreaux's topic in Older Products and Versions
The GEDCOM export does what is allowed by the GEDCOM 5.5 specs... no more and no less. -
Wishlist - Password Protect And/Or Encrypt Project Files
Jim Byram replied to Dan Stone's topic in Older Products and Versions
This request recently came up from a law firm that is apparently using TMG for a case. And the answer was essentially the same to them... take advantage of the features already built into the operating system. It would be simple to password projects from within TMG and would accomplish exactly nothing since the data tables could be deciphered directly although you couldn't make sense of the data without considerable effort. I couldn't see encrypting the data tables unless such functions are directly built into Visual FoxPro. I don't know if that's the case or not. However, even if VFP has such functions, I can't see the development effort and overhead justified by the rare need of TMG users to do such a thing. -
My personal take is that it's highly unlikely that there will ever be a MAC version of TMG. The gain in market share could never justify the expenditure of resources to undertake such a project.

Gedcom no export with 2 principals?
Jim Byram replied to arreaux's topic in Older Products and Versions
You can always customize things in TMG to control your report output. Just keep in mind that TMG can do many things that are not compatible with the GEDCOM 5.5 specs and won't be exported to GEDCOM files. If your intent is to have things exported to GEDCOM, then compromises in how you use TMG are necessary. If your concern about GEDCOM output is for web display, you might want to consider using Second Site rather than GEDCOM to build your web pages. Using Second Site, you don't need to place any limits on using TMG's capabilities. -
Gedcom no export with 2 principals?
Jim Byram replied to arreaux's topic in Older Products and Versions
To elaborate on what Terry said. The Land Sale tag with two principals will export if two conditions are met. 1) The P1 and P2 for the tag must have a 'family' relationship in GEDCOM terms since a shared event must export to a GEDCOM family record. Either they must share a Marriage tag or they must be the parents of one or more children. 2) The GEDCOM export tag for the Land Sale tag type must be set to 1 EVEN 2 TYPE on the Other tab of the Tag Type Definition screen. This would have been the default setting when the custom Land Sale tag type was created. The family events supported by the GEDCOM 5.5 specs include ANUL (annulment), CENS (census), DIV (divorce), DIVF (divorce filing), ENGA (engagement), MARR (marriage), MARB (marriage bann), MARC (marriage contrace), MARL (marriage license), MARS (marriage settlement), and EVEN (event). EVEN is a catch-all and is the default GEDCOM export tag type for custom tag types in TMG. Custom tag types exported as 1 EVEN 2 TYPE will be imported by any genealogy program that follows the GEDCOM 5.5 specs. As a further example, the TMG Census tag type or a custom census tag type which are set to export as a GEDCOM CENS tag will export as long as they meet the first requirement above (that the P1 and P2 have a 'family' relationship in GEDCOM terms) since CENS is a supported GEDCOM 5.5 family event. More... This came up in Support today. A GEDCOM family record can exist with only one parent and one or more children. A TMG census tag the father as P1 and a son as P2 and exported as CENS didn't show up in the GEDCOM file. The reason is this tag does not meet the first requirement above. Family events in the GEDCOM family record can only be shared by the individuals designated as HUSB and WIFE in the record. Shared family events cannot be shared by a parent and a child. -
Which you can do. The Output Columns tab has many options. 1) Use the right-click menu to add or delete columns. 2) Use the down arrow to open the list to change a column type. 3) You are correct that the place levels use the U.S. edition names but you can use the place levels directly (Place L1, Place L2, etc.). 4) Modify the width and heading label for each column. 5) Use the sort field for each column (on the left) to control the sort order. (Be sure not to use the same sort value on two columns.) The output columns are completely customizable as you wish. Wouldn't hurt to use the [Help] button.

Book Manager - Printing in One Document
Jim Byram replied to AlcieM's topic in Older Products and Versions
No. The Book Manager is really misnamed and should be called something like 'Report Manager'. It is a tool used to run a defined series of reports. -
text macro only works once in memo
Jim Byram replied to LornaHenderson's topic in Older Products and Versions
Lorna, Works fine for me. I added the Pound sign to a text macro field with ALT+0163. It works every time that I add it to a memo with the proper text macro key combination. Jim -
The exhibit paths in the exhibits data table need to be updated. Move the exhibit files to the new folder. Run TMG and use the External Exhibits feature of Validate File Integrity to update the exhibit paths. Each folder containing the exhibits (one or more folders) needs to have its path entered into the list. File / Maintenance / Validate File Integrity

No. TMG must be installed on the system that it's going to run on. Many required support files are installed to the system32 folder. Fonts are installed to the fonts folder.

"Primary" Designation throughout Database
Jim Byram replied to cblandry's topic in Older Products and Versions
I'll have to get to a FOW database on another machine to test the import but have never seen that problem. You should have no reason to need to use the Advanced Import Wizard with a Family Origins import. Have you tried the import using the Simple Import Wizard (the default)? Update: I can replicate the problem importing using the Simple Import Wizard. Arghhh! Not sure how to respond and will be back. You might want to play with a GEDCOM import in the meantime. -
To be clear... TMG6 has two Picklists - the Simple Picklist and the Expanded Picklist (with two views). The Simple Picklist is designed to be as fast as possible with very large projects and, for that reason, by design, does not include features such as accents that would slow down its performance.

TMG and Vista Compatability
Jim Byram replied to tmwgray's topic in The Master Genealogist UK Edition
I just think that you need to uninstall, delete the installation folder, and do a clean re-install using the v6.12 installer. If you install and WinVista wants to reinstall TMG6, let it do it. Then set your shortcut to run as administrator as I described before you make any attempt to run the program. And please locate your data outside of the Program Files tree. Once you run, set the projects path in Preferences appropriately. And when you restore projects, set the Current Project Options paths in Preferences for each project. I've been running TMG6 under WinVista for almost a year now and using v6.12 and following my suggestions in the tmgandwinvista document will resolve almost any issue likely to be encountered. -

How do I--Create a report with .......
Jim Byram replied to khursta's topic in Older Products and Versions
Use the List of Names report and you should be able to accomplish what you want in one report. Adjust the output columns under the Options to get the desired output. The Project Explorer is a list of names. -
Are you using another tag in the Burial group such as Probate?

Did you try the menu as opposed to the toolbar button?

Errors during loading of Family Tree Maker 16 files
Jim Byram replied to jadhunt's topic in Family Tree SuperTools
As a workaround, I'd try the import by way of a GEDCOM file. Contact me by email and I'll test the import of your FTM database. Click on the link below to send me an email... Jim Byram -
Why is this topic under Family Tree SuperTools? Source exhibits are not currently imported and that's a known issue. If you import using GEDCOM, you need to use the Advanced Import Wizard so that the custom GEDCOM tags created by Legacy can be imported as custom Tag Types. The GEDCOM import should be possible with a high degree of success.

You can use TMG Utility to change the place styles for existing places. http://www.johncardinal.com/tmgutil/

Sorting List of People report
Jim Byram replied to John Stark's topic in Older Products and Versions
John, The LOP sort issue is now fixed and tested with output to Excel (and other output formats) and should be in the next TMG release. This sort issue also existed in the LOE, LOW and LON and each of those had to be fixed. Jim -
Sorting List of People report
Jim Byram replied to John Stark's topic in Older Products and Versions
You never set the sort order in any column to '0'. If you want no sort on a given column and some value is already entered, you simply delete that value. When I tested John's issue, I deleted the default value for column 1 before entering the sort order that he specified for the other columns. -

Is your collate sequence in Preferences set to something other than 'General'? File / Preferences / Current Project Options / Other / Collate sequence -
With the person as focus, open the Flags window, select the SEX flag, double-click it or right-click and select 'Edit this flag' and change the setting. You should create a custom layout which includes the Flags window so that this window is always available.
