  1. Sorting List of People report

I get the same results as Terry. There are 50+ John Hewisons sorted in correct birth date order. Doing an analysis of your project. Terry notes that fresh index files were created when we looked at your project. Please reindex and see if that changes your results. In fact indexing is the only difference. I would open the project folder with Windows Explorer, sort by filetype, and delete all CDX files. Then open your project and, after it indexes, try the report. I see that your project has been optimized but you need to run Validate File Integrity. You will get a very high count of problems fixed but almost all of that is housekeeping. I'm looking at issues beyond what VFI fixes.
  2. Sorting List of People report

Terry and I both tested your report and it sorts correctly for us in every instance. Have no ideas. I'd like to test in a large one-name project but don't have the data to do so. Whether the version is US or UK is not pertinent to the issue.
  3. Upgrade or new version coming?

v7 is being worked on and the intent is WinVista compatibility. It will be released when ready.
  4. USGS GNIS Not working with IE 7

You can't pass parameters to the site if the site does not use a URL that uses parameters to initiate the search.
  5. So turn it off. Right-click in the Tag Box and uncheck 'Show Item Tips on the Person View'.
  6. Check the Simple Picklist and see if the sort there has any issues.
  7. GEDCOM Export to Rootsweb

Also, is the marriage primary and for both principals? You somethies get strange effects if a marriage is primary for one principal and not for the other. The primary setting needs to be the same for both principals.
  8. Enhancement Request - Last Edit Date

Flags are data. Where do you draw the line? It's not editing a person to change the sex or adopted or birth order or multiple birth flags? The LOP and LOE mechanisms are not typically used to change flags of the above types. You need to propose a better mechanism than just turning off changing the Last Edited date if any flag setting is changed. For example, the Flag Manager could have a checkbox or toggle for each flag as to whether it would effect the Last Edited date (like the active switch). Some default flags (sex, multiple birth, birth order, adopted) would be permanently marked to make the Last Edited change. (I'm guessing that most people would prefer that Living not be permanently marked to change Last Edited.) Alternatively, Terry suggested a global on/off switch that excludes certain flags.
  9. Mixed Case Exhibit names

Windows is case-insensitive. 020-emmajanelittlechandler.jpg is the same as 020-EmmaJaneLittleChandler.jpg as far as the operating system is concerned. You haven't disconnected anything so nothing needs to be reconnected.
  10. Backup/Restore

First, you should be running the latest version of TMG. 1) I would have backed up your project and exhibits. 2) Install the latest version of TMG on the new machine using the latest full installer. 3) Restore your project and exhibits. 4) Open Preferences and adjust the settings to your likings (which will take a few minutes at most). You should never back up any customizations unless you understand exactly what you are backing up and why. If you blindly back up customizations, for the most part, you are backing up things installed by the program that are never changed. What's the point in that? You also don't want to backup customizations and restore them to a later version of the program. You might be overwriting a setting or file that has been changed. You might be losing a setting that has been added as the program has been updated. In your case, I would uninstall TMG from the new machine and delete the TMG program folder. Scrub your TMG data (project, exhibits). And then start over following the steps above. If you have some specific 'customizations' on the old machine that you want to retain, simply copy those files from the old installation and add them to the appropriate folders in the new installation. Things you might want are: custom layouts (.lo), color schemes (.col), report (.rpt) or GEDCOM (.xpt) configurations (and other files depending on what you have customizad). I would not copy the app.ini (program settings) from the older installation to the new installation. It's easy enough to go to Preferences in the new installation and adjust the settings. (I don't object to copying the current app.ini if you are going to scrub an existing working installation and do a reinstall.) I scrub TMG and make new TMG installations constantly for testing. I have a folder (TMG_baseline) where I keep a copy of the latest 'customizations' that I'm using. When I make a new installation, I simply copy the contents of the baseline folder into the new TMG program folder after I install TMG.
  11. No. No. No. The frames are only for VCF charts. btw... You should probably be outputting your report to 'Word 2000 for Windows or later' rather than to RTF.
  12. 4.0d and Vista?

TMG4 should run under WinVista (maybe) but I decline to try it. Just make sure that you install it outside of Program Files so that there are no permissions issues. I had TMG4 running under WinXP with a widescreen display set at 1680x1050. It worked fine. Just a lot of wasted screen space since the layout didn't change to match the screen space.
  13. TMG data size limitations

There are some limits but they are so vast that you will never run into them. The TMG v6.12 limits are, for the most part, the Visual FoxPro v7 limits. For example, there is a 2 Gb limit for any data table (each table, not the entire database). The main issue with a very large project is performance. I tested a project with almost a milllion people last year and it was basically unusable unless the PE was always left unlinked and you were very patient. I've also tested a memo with 500 Mb and that works but is very slow opening and closing.
  14. Abbreviations - France

Simple fix. I'll write the issue. Thanks.
  15. Gedcom export missing primary birth data

That's correct. That's a bug. The tags with an excluded sentence should be exported if you choose 'Show excluded data'. There is also a bug with exclusion and tags exported as NOTE which should be completely suppressed if the memo is excluded. And help needs revision regarding exclusion and export.
  16. Gedcom export missing primary birth data

Help helps. "A single Exclusion Marker at the beginning of a Sentence field in any tag, or at the beginning of the Memo field in a Note tag, prevents the printing of that tag and the export of that entire tag to GEDCOM if Show excluded data is not checked."
  17. report names by birth month

As Terry said... List of Events Tag Type... Label = BIRTH AND Date-Month = JUNE AND Principal1... Surname = (something) AND Principal1... LIVING = Y END In normal usage, LIVING is a flag, not a tag. All of the above filter lines are characteristics of events and the output can identify the Principal1 which is what you are after. (birth events occurring in June linked to living people having a surname of (something))
  18. Images in Descendant box chart

Whatever is going on is a complete mystery to me based on the explanations above. Try the following... 1) Remove the current thumbnails. They get in the way of seeing what is happening. File / Preferences / Current Project Options / Advanced / unselect 'Save image thumbnails' Click [OK] to save Preferences File / Maintenance / Optimize 2) Open the Exhibit Log Set the focus to 'All Exhibits' Now you can see if any exhibits are missing. If so... 3) File / Maintenance / Validate File Integrity Check the 'Search for missing external exhibits' (You see that I'm assuming the exhibits of concern are external exhibits.) Click [specify the folders to search...] Add all folder paths where the exhibits are located to search. Save the list and complete the VFI run. (Caution! Don't do this if you have exhibits with the same filename in different folders (bad practice). Running the exhibit tool will make a big mess.) Did this fix the problem? If not, explain the results. The Last VFI.log in the project folder will show the results of the exhibit search (near the top of the log text). After repairing the exhibit paths, you can go to Preferences and turn thumbnails back on.
  19. That's in your current project. Create a new project and copy the templates from that. This has been reported previously and the reason is not clear. One user with the issue resolved it by reinstalling. A fix was done to try to protect against the error and, as far as I can see, the fix was in v6.10. So... You need to update to the latest version (v6.12) and see if that resolves the issue.

The calendar would appear to be moderated like moderated forums. You (the user) can make additions but they are invisible until a moderator approves them and makes them visible.
  23. Post has not appeared on a forum

Calendar posting have to be made visible before they show up. I found two not visible in May and made them visible... Brisbane on May 12 and 13. One needs to be removed? Since the user group topic shows meetings being on Saturday, I removed the Sunday meeting from the calendar. The June and July hidden meetings are also on Sunday and I wonder if they should be on Saturday.

No, but it looks like I can. What's the problem?
