  1. You asked: Sorry, I'm afraid not. I guess I'd never thought of that as I very seldom move from one tag to the next. I suppose one might in cleaning up an import, though. No, that's been suggested, but the official position is that the output of the sentence depends on a number of report settings as well as the context of the sentence in the report. There is a preview report button on the Reports toolbar, and you can add your own to the custom toolbar. These allow one-click reports, which help some. I don't know. This would better be posted to the TMG6 forum, or better yet to the RootsWeb TMG list, which has a wider readership. I'm afraid not. GEDCOM specs don't recognize sentences, and Bob Velke is a stickler for following the specs. Terry Reigel
  2. Web question regarding tmg

TMG has no built-in web collaboration tool. Several users have set up their own methods of doing web collaboration with TMG. If you inquire on the TMG mailing list, you might get a response as to how they did this. http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/other/Software/TMG.html You provided no way for anyone to email you.
  3. Looking at whether this is a known installer issue. The pattern suggests a third party application is involved. Can you list everything that was installed between when WinVista was installed and when the TMG install was attempted.
  4. TMG6 Vista Installation Error

  5. Self-duplicating tags?

Peter, The duplicated tags were in a contiguous block of 21 events (GNUM 10216 to 10244). (Some event numbers between the first and last have been deleted so the current block has 21 events rather than 29 events.) The first tag entered was a Residence tag for ID#5722 and ID#5745. The last tag entered was a Note tag for ID#1237. Maybe you can figure out something unusual about when you entered that block of events. Jim
  6. TMG6 Vista Installation Error

Is mfc42.dll present in the c:\windows\system32 folder? The Microsoft Foundation Class library including mfc42.dll has been included with all MS operating systems since Win98 (first edition). These files were installed on my current WinVista installation. If it's not there, this would explain the error. If not, you can download mfc42.dll (http://www.dll-download.net/mfc42.html) and add it to system32 although I suspect this is not enough by itself.
  7. Importing from Reunion

Export the date from Reunion to a GEDCOM file and import the GEDCOM file into TMG.
  8. Did you try installing with your antivirus scanner turned off as suggested above? I did a web search for the mfc42.dll issue but have not found another good idea yet.
  9. TMG6 Vista Installation Error

Sheryl didn't respond to this suggestion in her topic. You should not need to change the installer compatibility settings. If WinVista has an issue, it will just ask you to run the installer again. You do not need to run the installer as administrator. You do need to run the program (but not the installer) as administrator if it is installed to the Program Files folder. Here's what to try... Close any programs that are security holes... email client, browser, instant messaging client. Turn off your anti-virus protect scanning... in other words, the real time scanning that is always occurring. Then retry the TMG installer with the a/v scanning off. A/V scanning is one known cause of this issue. I've installed TMG under WinVista with both Norton and Avast running with no problem. Be sure to turn the antivirus protect scanning back on before rebooting and before running any web-related programs.
  10. Don't have any good ideas. I've installed TMG v6.12 under WinVista at least a couple of dozen times with no problem. You do not need to run the installer as administrator... just the program. Virginia suggests that this was once caused by an anti-virus program. To test that, you should temporarily disable your antivirus scanner and try the installer with the antivirus scanner turned off. Before the test, I would close all running programs and particularly any program that is a security concern while your antivirus scanner is off such as any email and instant messaging clients.
  11. Combine REINDEX & OPTIMIZE

Reindex bebuilds the indexes with no change to the data tables. Optimize compacts the data tables and, by necessity since the data tables have changed, reindexes.
  12. OT: Vista Scanner Driver

Keep a watch on the HP site for the driver. Looking at the WinVista driver page for the Scanjet 4670... "Currently, there is no Windows Vista driver available for your HP product. Therefore your product will not work with Windows Vista at this time. HP is currently working to make the HP driver solution for your product available as soon as possible. We will have basic driver solutions available for HP Scanners starting in February and completing by mid March." Here is one person's work-around to get the 4670 working under WinVista. "In brief -- download the Deskscan 2.9 software from the HP website and install it using Run as Administrator and at the end run the Scanner Test ...... "
  13. New Computer with Vista

Are you using the v6.12 full installer? You can download it here: http://www.whollygenes.com/files/tmg6setup.exe You need to uninstall and try again with the v6.12 full installer.

  15. Windows Vista

Yes. The PDF printer driver was updated to a WinVista-compatible version for TMG v6.12. Note that the WinVista document was updated yesterday adding a couple of work-arounds. http://www.whollygenes.com/files/tmg6andwinvista.pdf
  16. Windows Vista

Having to run as Administrator is related to installing under the Program Files tree. A future release of TMG should remove all data from the program folder to user space. However there are other issues and I'm not sure how they can be resolved yet. You can always install out of the Program Files tree and then you will not have to run as Administrator. For example, I have an installation in D:\TMG that runs with no permissions issues. This is a simple work-around for the WinVista permissions issues. I've been watching for the WinHelp viewer as well. A HTML version of the help file is being worked on and that will be WinVista-compatible but it will be a while before that is completed. Update: The WinHelp viewer is still being tested and, hopefully, should be released before the end of February.
  17. GTMOOTMG contains a considerable amount of information not found anywhere else. With that perspective, it's a valuable reference to use in getting the most out of TMG.
  18. In the Journal report options... General tab / Style section / select 'Custom format' Miscellaneous tab / Format section / select 'Include spouse events' The General tab setting enables the option on the Miscellaneous tab. There is no comparable setting for the Descendant Indented Narrative.
  19. Master Repository List Bug

This is a bug that apparently occurs when [Copy] is used in the Master Repository List. It has proven very difficult to pin down and replicate. I repaired John's repository data table.
  20. Memo font size

I see it and how to replicate it and will write the issue. It happens with [OK] and not with [Cancel] or [eXit].
  21. error opening exhibit properties

Discussing this with the programmer. Jim
  22. UNICODE

This is not an official response from Wholly Genes. Please read the answer to your earlier question. http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index...ost&p=26918 The answer is that, no, TMG v6.12 does not support Unicode.
  23. Sounds

Windows / Control Panel / Sounds and Audio Devices Properties / Sounds tab Under the Windows section, select the 'Default Beep'. In the 'Sounds:' list box below, select '(None)' which is at the top of the list. Click [OK]. As far as I know, that is the only sound used by the messageboxes in TMG.
  24. Hungarian Language

This is not an official Wholly Genes response. I can't really answer. The program supports Norwegian, German, Dutch so the character handling there might answer your question. The version of Visual FoxPro used by TMG v6.12 does not support Unicode. Yes. The program includes many timelines and you can create custom timelines.
  25. Version 7

The answer to that is simple. The day that it is released. v6.12 runs under WinVista as a legacy program. See the document on this: http://www.whollygenes.com/files/tmg6andwinvista.pdf Hopefully, v7 will be WinVista-compatible.
