  1. List of People

Attempting to run a List of People report in order to change a flag, output suppressed. The report has been running quite happily but certainly I've now started getting "No printer is installed so the document could not be constructed". The printer is set in TMG to Windows Default. Control Panel confirms that there is a default printer set up. Has anyone got any ideas?
  2. List of People

It looks as if I'll have to try Technical Support.
  3. List of People

This is not so. I consistently run TMG from my normal account using "run as administrator". I don't want to do it that way, it's the only way I have been able to get TMG to work. I use XP Pro I am not aware of having changed anything that might cause these symptoms.
  4. List of People

[Printerinfo] printertype=2 Orientation=1 Printer Setup is set to Windows Default
  5. List of People

I have checked Control Panel (again) and the default printer is HP Deskjet 5600 as it should be. I have reset TMG Printer Setup to Windows default. I have deleted and recreated the report (without suppressing output). Again "No printer is installed...". On the report definition screen, I now click Properties and specifically set the HP Deskjet 5600. The report now works. I reload the report and run it but again "No printer is installed". Click Properties and the HP Deskjet is selected (it's remembered that bit). Click OK. Click Create Report and it works! It seems that it will not work unless you click properties in the report definition screen. I am getting mightily fed up with TMG. Has anyone got any ideas?
  6. List of People

I'm afraid it's not as simple as that. 1. In Printer Setup, a specific printer is set, not the Windows default. The program remembers this setting. 2. In Reports...List of People, I have set the report's output to "Print Preview". In the "Properties" options on the Report Definition Screen, I have again selected a specific printer (surely this step should not be necessary?). 3. The setting in (2) above is not remembered and has to be set again each time. This is surely not right? 4. In these circumstances, the report works. 5. If I carry out steps (2) and (3) again and then change the report option to "Suppress output", the report works. 6. However, on subsequent attempts the report produces the "No printer installed" message. 7. The only way to get it to work is to cancel the "Suppress output" option and repeat all the above steps. I hope this provides a taste of the mess that things are in.
  7. Version 6.12

Can anyone please point me towards a ready-to-install download of version 6.12 UK edition?
  8. Version 6.12

Very well, Vera, thank you. I thought you had forgotten about me. I'll wait for a while.
  9. All Users...or not?

For the best part of two weeks I have been trying to get TMG running on my new PC. I don't care whether it's 6.12 (that I had been using) or 7 (I was seriously thinking about upgrading but now I'm not so sure). I have been corresponding with technical support. The new PC is running Windows XP Pro with service pack 3. Please note it's XP Pro - not XP Home. TMG appears to install but a when attempting to produce a report (any report apart from Visual Chartform reports), various error messages are produced and the system falls over. I just tried reinstalling the trial version 7 (UK Gold) yet again. I restarted in safe mode as "Administrator" (and not as a named user with administrative rights). I reinstalled with the "all users" option. I restarted the PC and logged in in my usual way (as a named user with administrative rights) and once again attempting to produce a report made the system fall over. Then a voice whispered in my ear that I should try "run as". So I right clicked TMG7.exe and selected "run as Adminstrator". Reports now seem to be working! All this was with the sample project only. Although I seem to have made a small step forwards, this obviously isn't a satisfactory situation. Can anyone understand what's going on here? Has anyone got any suggestions for a proper solution?
  10. All Users...or not?

A bit early to reach that conclusion, I would have said.
  11. All Users...or not?

Virginia The administrator account is enabled. "Change the way users log on or off" - "Use the Welcome Screen" and "Use Fast User switching" are both checked.
  12. All Users...or not?

An update... I uninstalled TMG, cleared out old folders and cleaned the registry. I then reinstalled TMG 7 (UK Gold) for all users using the "Peter (Admin)" account (administrators group), accepting all the defaults. The situation with reports was exactly the same as before which didn't surprise me. When running from the Peter (Admin) account, it produces error messages and then exits. If I run TMG using "Run as Administrator", reports seem to be produced normally. Although it's precisely the same setup program as before, this time for some bizarre reason, it presented me with the US sample project when previously it was the UK sample! I've searched the hard drive and the UK sample is nowhere to be seen! Should I laugh or should I cry? None of the other software I've installed on this PC has caused me any trouble.
  13. All Users...or not?

Installing in safe mode was a recommendation of TMG technical support! The first installation on this machine was a 'normal' installation and was unsuccessful. However I suppose it will be interesting to see whether another attempt throws up any differences. I'll do a clean uninstall and a normal reinstall and report back.
  14. All Users...or not?

TMG 7 UK Gold was installed in safe mode as "administrator" to c:\The Master Genealogist v7. I have been attempting to run TMG from an account "Peter (admin)" which was set up to have administrators rights. When run from this account, TMG produces error messages instead of reports. When run from this account using "Run as Administrator", TMG produces reports correctly. No data storage locations have been changed. All this is using the sample project only. The operating system is Win XP Pro.
  15. All Users...or not?

Printer settings make no difference. I'm sure you're right that it works well for some people. On the other hand all, you won't hear about the potential customers who have tried, failed and given up! I'm only persevering because of my investment of time and sffort. If anyone can suggest a new mix of uninstall and reinstall options I'll try it....
  16. All Users...or not?

It won't produce reports at all.
  17. All Users...or not?

Jim - You didn't specifically mention XP Pro but I understand that there are significant differences between XP Pro and XP Home - particularly concerning security. Virginia - 1. successive error messages were: a. Syntax error. b. Object GOREP is not found. 4 FRMRDS_PEOPLE.DESTROY c. Unknown member ROPROTECTIONMAN d. Object GOREP is not found. 14 FRMCHART5.UNLOAD 2. Configuration Files: C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\The Master Genealogist v7\Configuration_files\ 3. Sample project C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\The Master Genealogist v7\Projects\Sample_UK\
  18. All Users...or not?

I wonder if perhaps your advice was intended for a user of Vista? I am using XP Pro. On my PC with XP Pro, TMG 6 and TMG 7 can only be installed by an administrator. The program will only run successfully using "run as". Even if the current named user has full administrative rights, the software will only run if the "run as" option specifies the word "Administrator".
  19. I want to produce an endnote containg historical and general information about a place together with a photograph. I would probably only want this to appear once when the place is first mentioned. Is this possible? If so, how would I best tackle it?
  20. I am not an experienced TMG user and may have misunderstood something basic but... It seems to me that if the sentence associated with the primary birth group tag does not start with [P], things start going wrong. Specifically, if my primary birth tag sentence starts with [PS] (as in "John Smith's birth was registered..."), I get the name repeated superfluously ie the paragraph reads "John Smith. John Smith's birth was registered...". I can get something looking a bit more like English by changing the sentence to "John Smith sent his mother round to register..." but that's silly. Has anyone got any helpful comments?
