  1. Duplicate Tags

Terry you are a star! And so simple in the end. You'll be pleased to know that your book A Primer for The Master Genealogist is what has encouraged me into using more of the superb functionality of TMG. Many thanks. Alan
  2. Duplicate Tags

Can anyone shed any light on this please? I started with 3.7 many years ago, importing data from a PAF GEDCOM file but didn't really get into it then. Years later I bought 6.0 and upgraded gradually to 7.04 (UK Gold). I love it and am now getting into using witnesses, roles and where necessary creating a few custom tags. I also use SecondSite v2.2.6. I'm really happy with the sentences in my TMG Individual Narrative but when I run SecondSite the opening sentence is repeated (almost). E.g. "Hannah Mead, daughter of George Mead and Hannah Hearne, was born circa 1685. Hannah Mead was the daughter of George Mead and Hannah Hearne.1,2". I've spent days trying to find out why but have just noticed that all my daughter, son, father, mother master tags are duplicated except that one of each is "deactivated". The UK Sample data set does not have duplicated tags. The first of each duplicated tag is Type: Custom, the second is Type: Standard. Could it be that TMG only uses the activated tags but SecondSite is not expecting two identical tags. Where could these duplicate tags have come from? If I try to delete the Standard tag I get the message: "This is a predefined tag and cannot be deleted ... etc." If I try to delete the Custom tag I get the message: This tag type cannot currently be deleted. There are 499 occurrences of this tag type in the current data set." Maybe this duplicate tag thing has nothing to do with my little problem in which case I'll keep on looking for something else or contact the SecondSite support. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who can advise in any way. Alan
  3. This is bound to be a simple fix - but can I find out how to do it? Possibly since right clicking in Sentence structure (Custom), when I produce an Individual Narrative report to the screen I get the following: Thomas Mead was born circa 1688, probably in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire. <FHELVSS75>1<FHELVSS75>,<FHELVSS75>2 This now occurs on all my Individual Narrative reports. Reports to word processing file or via Second Site are no problem at all. Has anyone got any ideas? It's not a big deal but I'd like to understand what I've done wrong and set it back.
  4. I would very much like to use hanging indents for my individual narrative reports: 1797 Text ..... I've modified my sentence structure to [Y][:TAB:][P] was born <[D]> <[L]> <[M]> which would seem to be the way to do it, followed by a tweak in my word processing software to produce the "hang", but I invariably get the individual's name before the year as well as at [P]. The sentence structure remains as P1: [Y][:TAB:][P] was born <[D]> <[L]> <[M]> Great progam and love finding ways to stretch it!
  5. Source details

Very many thanks for your replies. They are much appreciated and have given me some good guidance. Alan
  6. Source details

I'm getting to grips with TMG and am really happy with the reports being generated - individual narrative, end notes, bibliography are all great. So I've got used to sentence construction and entering everything in the right place. However, having used other family history programs in the past, I just feel a little uncomfortable that I'm not entering actual text from the source anywhere. If the text forms part of the story - like an extract from an apprenticeship indenture that I want to show up in the individual narrative - then I include it in the memo. But what about data that I want to record but don't want to show in the narrative. For example on a birth certificate - registration district, occupation of father, informant, when registered. Or on a census return - details of others in the same household.
