Helmut Leininger 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2008 Hi, I would like to add nicknames to several individuals. They should be shown in the details window, preferably also in the project explorer and printed with some kind of reports. In general, adding nicknames quite easy. But I do not want that the entered name is "expanded" with the given name or surname of the person. I.e. if I have a person called John Smith, whose nickname is "sorcerer", I don not want to see it as "John sorcerer" or "sorcerer Smith". Is there an easy way? Thanks
Terry Reigel 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2008 Yes. Enter the nickname in the Given Name field, and enter an exclusion mark (a hyphen) in the surname field.

Michael Hannah 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2008 (edited) Helmut, What Terry suggested is correct, but... If you choose that Name-Var as the name to be used in another tag, and if the sentence structure would output the full name, and if you have your report Options set to Show Excluded Data, (an awful lot of 'if's ), then using only one hyphen will output the text you have set for "unknown surname", usually "(--?--)". To avoid that, I always use the double dash exclusion mark '--' in the surname for these circumstances. Edited July 11, 2008 by Michael Hannah
