=== FGS Conference ==================================

If you'll be near Philadelphia, PA this week (Wed, Sept 3rd through Sat, Sept 6th), then please stop by the Pennsylvania Convention Center to visit us at the Federation of Genealogical Societies Conference. Wholly Genes representative and other users will be demonstrating TMG and answering questions at Exhibit Booths #308 and #310. Companion products, data CDs and other material will also be available without the cost of shipping.

Entrance to the Exhibit Hall is FREE but to attend lecture and other classes will be $125 per day or $225 for the whole conference.

We hope to see you there!

=== Cruise News =====================================

The registration deadline has past and the reserved space for the 4th Annual Genealogy Conference and Cruise (Oct 26-Nov 2) is full. In fact, the entire ship is completely sold out which is unusual for two months prior to the event. If you intended to attend this great event, however, individuals may still be looking for roommates and a waiting list is forming to claim rooms that might become available through cancellations. Please contact the group travel agent, Julie, at 1-800-377-9383 or juliea@cruiseweb.com.

Registered parties should have received a "Cruise News" newsletter by this time. If you haven't received it, please contact bvelke@whollygenes.com.

For more information about this extremely popular event, please see .

=== Did You Know? ==============================

DID YOU KNOW that you can remove flags that you don't use from the Flag window? Choose "Flag Manager" from the File menu (or right-click on the Flags window and choose "Customize flags..."). Then highlight a flag that you don't use and then click Disable on the right. Disabled flags (i.e., those whichout check marks on the list) will not appear in the Flags window.

DID YOU KNOW that you can change the order of flags in the Flags window? Access the Flag Manager as above, then highlight the name of a flag and click "Move Up" or "Move Down" on the right.

DID YOU KNOW that you can remove or change the order of the lines in the "Other Info" box (to the right of the primary name on the Details Window)? If you don't use the Reference field or you want the Last Edited date to appear on top, for instance, right click on that part of the screen and click "Customize 'Other info' box." Then highlight one of the data types in the list and click on the buttons on the right to disable or move them.

DID YOU KNOW that you can add a Birth tag to a person by simply holding down the Control key while you press "B" (i.e., ^B)? There are similar shortcuts for adding name variations, marriage, death, burial, and history tags. See the bottom of the Add menu. The shortcuts are also listed on the right on the tag labels in the Tag Type List.

DID YOU KNOW that, although you cannot create new shortcut keys like those mentioned above, you can create a custom toolbar button with which you can add a specific tag type (or access any other menu feature) with just one click? Right-click on any toolbar button and choose "Customize..." in order to access the Custom Toolbar Manager.

DID YOU KNOW that you can design a custom toolbar button in TMG what will run another windows program? Access the Custom Toolbar Manager as described above and then scroll down the "Unused Buttons" list to the "SPECIAL FUNCTION" section. "Execute a Windows program" is about 13 rows above the bottom. Just make sure that you don't use this feature to access a external program which requires your TMG project to be closed (e.g., Second Site).

DID YOU KNOW that if you find yourself typing the same text over and over, then you can save it as a text macro and then insert the whole thing with a shortcut key? Access "Text Macros" from the Tools menu to define up to 11 custom macros (Shift+F2 through Shift+F12).

DID YOU KNOW that you can change the sequence of people in the Associates Window? Right-click on the list, select "Sort," and select one of the other sorting methods.

DID YOU KNOW that you can link a specific citation to every record in a data set at the same time? This may be handy after importing a data set from another researcher. Access the Master Source List, highlight the source in question, and then click on the "Cite Globally" on the right.

DID YOU KNOW that you can easily expand most windows to fill the screen? It is nice to be able to use the Tree View in full screen mode, for instance. While looking at the Tree View, click on the Maximize button in the top-right corner (to the left of the "X" button). After working with the Tree View in full screen, click on the button that is in that same position in order to return the window to its original size and position!
