RWells 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2010 Is there some way to sort the gedcom output so that all event tags are in sort date sequence? Roger
Jim Byram 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2010 No. The GEDCOM specifications do not require any particular tag sort order so TMG has no tag sort function. And such a sort function would serve no purpose since the importing program will sort the imported tags following its own rules.
RWells 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2010 So is it up to the receiving program to do the sorting? Roger
Jim Byram 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2010 So is it up to the receiving program to do the sorting? Yes, that's correct (see above). Sorry. I was editing above while you were replying.
Michael Hannah 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2010 It is even worse than that. According to the GEDCOM specs, there is only one date field for a GEDCOM event (no second separate "sort" date field), and there is no rule in GEDCOM as to how the receiving program orders events on the same date. The receiving program is not obligated to keep them in the order found in the input file. So it is truly up to the receiving program.
