Helmut Leininger 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2010 Hi, Probably this has already been handled in another thread, but I did not find it. My question is the following: The address where my father was born in 1918 is: Krugzell, Haus Nr. 12 1/2 around 1935 or 1940 a renumbering of the houses took place and the address was now: Krugzell, Haus Nr. 32 Today, its address is: Wasserschwenden, Haus Nr. 1 This is always the same house that has been built in 1876. How do you handle these address changes referring to the same "physical" location? Thanks in advance.
Michael Hannah 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2010 Hi Helmut, Most people who have discussed this before prefer their narrative output to use location names as they were known at the time of the event being described. However, many also add some comment in the citation that indicates how that location might be described or named today. It is also why many people try to add the Latitude/Longitude to a TMG place entry so that the location is clear regarless of the name used.
Jim Byram 0 Report post Posted November 7, 2010 In these cases, I would use: Krugzell, Haus Nr. 12 1/2 (currently Wasserschwenden, Haus Nr. 1) Krugzell, Haus Nr. 32 (currently Wasserschwenden, Haus Nr. 1) ...and add notes to the events or citations if you feel the need.
