Ashe in 1891-2. While Dublin City and County are replete with trades' and residential directories from the mid-eighteenth century to the present day, many of the Ireland's other counties are bereft of such directories. Between 1769 and 1894 there have only been fifteen published directories in which all or part of Limerick and Clare have been featured. Of the fifteen published directories, only two, apart from H. & E. Ashe's Directory specifically treat on Limerick City and County as well as County Clare, and as such, this republication will be of particular interest to those who have an interest in these counties. Kilkenny, or to give them their full title: 'At a General Assizes, and General Goal Delivery, held at Grace's Old Castle, Kilkenny, in and for said County, on Wednesday 7th March 1832', was published in Kilkenny City in 1832 by T Shearman, stationer. The Presentments for Kilkenny are a detailed record of the financial transactions and payments made to and from the Grand Jury of County Kilkenny between the Spring Assizes of 1825 and the Summer Assizes of 1832 and as such are a set of early accounts for the forerunner of Kilkenny county council. H. Bradshaw. Bradshaw's opening chapter focuses on the development of Enniskillen town, the principal urban centre in County Fermanagh, straddled between the two Lough Ernes. The town was incorporated in 1612, with William Cole appointed as the first provost. Although the early development of the town is detailed, the part played by the town during the various seventeenth century wars is, unsurprisingly, particularly prominent. So too is the destruction of the town by fire in 1705, when '114 families and their servants suffered very severe losses', which (more...) THE REGISTER OF DERRY CATHEDRAL 1642-1703 $27.49 http://www.WhollyGenes.com/find_wg.mvc?ref...S&p=IET0068 The Parish Register Society of Dublin was established in 1905 for the purpose of transcribing and publishing early Anglican parish registers, and between 1906 and 1915 the Society published twelve volumes of parish registers. Most of the published registers were from parishes in the vicinity of Dublin, and Richard Hayes's transcription of the early registers of Derry Cathedral were the only registers from Ulster to appear in print. After 1915 the Society merged with the Association for the Preservation of the Memorials of the Dead, and transcribed registers appeared in that Society's journal until 1934. (more...) STATISTICAL SURVEY OF CAVAN, 1802 $27.49 http://www.WhollyGenes.com/find_wg.mvc?ref...S&p=IET0069 In the 1740s the Physico Historical Society of Ireland expressed an ambitious plan to publish a survey of each county in Ireland, although only four surveys (Down, Kerry, Cork and Waterford) ultimately appeared in print. Decades later, the Dublin Society, established in the 1730s, and becoming the Royal Dublin Society in 1820, launched a similar project, which proved considerably more successful. Under this initiative, the first county surveys appeared in 1801, and between that year and 1832, twenty three county surveys were completed. (more...) === Did You Know? ============================== DID YOU KNOW that you can add a new person to your project while adding or editing an event? Just click on the "Add Person" button in the top-right corner of the event (Tag Entry) window. You can use this "Quick Add" screen to add a new person who will then be automatically linked as a principal to the event that is open. DID YOU KNOW that you can get maps of the locations of your ancestors' events? Just open the Tag Entry window for an event and then click on the "Get a map of this place" button in the top-right corner. TMG utilizes free web-based mapping utilities like Google Maps, MapQuest, and TerraServer to provide maps around the world. DID YOU KNOW that you can bookmark a person's record in TMG so that you can easily return to it later? Just press Control+K or access the View menu and choose BookMarks > Bookmark Manager. After adding a person to the list of bookmarks, you can return to him later by clicking on his name in the View > Bookmarks menu. The process is even simpler if you activate the Bookmark toolbar which you'll find on the View > Toolbars menu. DID YOU KNOW that TMG has a feature which analyzes the records for your ancestors and produces a report showing their minimum, maximum, and average age of death? Similar statistics are shown for age at first marriage, age upon the birth of the first and last child, and much more. The feature is called a "Statistical Report" and it is on the Reports menu. It is especially enlightening to filter the report and compare the statistics for different groups of people based on their geography or other characteristics. The report also helps to identify data entry errors or suspicious evidence. DID YOU KNOW you can leave the Focus Group window open while you work in TMG? The Focus Group window is available on the toolbar and it can be used to identify a subset of people whose records you want to examine. Just right-click on a person in the list and choose "Change focus to this person." Best of all, it stays open while you navigate -- just like the Details, Children, and Siblings windows. DID YOU KNOW that you can change the sequence of person images as they print out in narrative reports? First, make sure that "Show Event Exhibits" is unchecked at the bottom of the Exhibit Log. Then simply drag and drop the images with your mouse in order to change their sequence.
