Merging Data Sets

Recommended Posts

I am trying to merge a small data set with my larger master set (over 35,000 individuals). I get the following errors/issues:

- "Tag Entry: You must assign the principal from the same data set as tag."

- "Your project is set to Lackey or Mills...."

- When I am ready to merge the two sets the "Merge" button is not highlighted.

I obviously do not know how to merge data sets.

Thanks, George

How do you get this error? It sounds like an error you would get if you have two data sets in a project, and try to put a person in each one in as principals in the same tag. You can't do that. You need to merge the data sets first, which is what I think you have in mind.

- "Your project is set to Lackey or Mills...."

It sounds like you have the project set to Mills or Lackey source category, and have modified one or more of the source types in one or both data sets. If so, you need to change the source Category to Custom first, carefully following the directions on the pop-up screen in order to avoid losing your customizations.

- When I am ready to merge the two sets the "Merge" button is not highlighted.

Where do you see this? I can't get that.

I suggest you look at my article on Merging Projects and Data Sets - it discusses these and other issues related to merging Data Sets.
