Does version 7 support Unicode?

Recommended Posts

I can not enter certain Czech characters specifically the r with a caron over it. Other Czech characters work OK. If I cut and paste them they end up looking like a zero with a dash through it. I have set up Czech keyboard but that doesn't work either. I found a forum thread about this:

http://www.whollygenes.com/forums201/index...zech+characters

and it says that it is caused by the underlying MS Foxpro database not being able to support Unicode but that was for an older version of TMG. Is this still true with version 7?

Thanks

Dave

Unfortunately, since Microsoft hasn't seen fit to add Unicode support to Foxpro yet, TMG still can't add Unicode support.

I know back in 2007 Microsoft announced the end of the line for Visual Fox Pro, so unless unicode appears in a service pack I doubt we will ever see it. To what extent this affects future TMG versions, I don't know, but if I understand it correctly Unicode support requires a change in database engine.

I looked at the change list for the Sept 2007 SP for Fox 9, and Unicode still wasn't in there. It probably won't be, ever, since there's no FoxPro 10 coming.

TMG7 has no change in this regard, since the underlying FoxPro is the same. (WHERE DID THE EXTRA SPEED COME FROM??)

If and When MS forces a change to another database (SqlServer???), try again.

TMG6 used VFP7. TMG7 uses VFP9.
