File Locations - again

Recommended Posts

OK, so I have read all about Microsoft dictating where we should locate our data and I have perfectly good structures for locating my data and settings and it is all well away from Program Files.

I have edited my preferences to use a folder called My Genealogy which is where all my TMG data is stored. It just happens to be at the same folder level as My Documents and not a sub folder of it.

So why does TMG insist on creating the following every time I start it?

C:\Documents and Settings\Alan\My Documents\The Master Genealogist v7

with sub folders as follows:

Backups

Configuration_files

Exhibits

Export

FDE

Archive

Incoming

Logs

Projects

Sample

Repeat_files

Report_output

Slideshow

Timelines

And then I find that it has reset my Default Project path to

C:\Documents and Settings\Alan\My Documents\The Master Genealogist v7\Projects

This means that I have to navigate to my project file to open it.

Provided I leave that set of folders and subfolders alone everything works fine. But I don't want that set of folders cluttering up My Documents!!!

Any ideas?

Alan

Open Help, and search for Data Files - look down the list for "Data File Storage for Advanced Users." Read that article, and especially the linked article " Customizing Data File Storage" which explains how to create a "Data_paths.txt" file that will resolve your issue.
