  1. I suspect that the serial number was sent to the original purchaser by email. If you want to use TMG you need to purchase a serial number from Harry as Jim has now told you twice, and download the current installer from this website.
  2. serial no for v9

I would suggest sending an email to support@whollygenes.com with details. They have been responding to requests about lost serial numbers. But be patient - there is no one there regularly to respond.
  3. Worth upgrading to V9 from v7

Michael, It looks to me like the first one you reference actually starts with 8.01, and thus missed the new features in 8.00, the same as the other one which includes both changes to v 8 after the initial release, and all of v 9.
  4. Worth upgrading to V9 from v7

Their were detailed webpages describing each new release, but I don't know how to find them now, if they are even still up. I think they were part of the "store" which is now closed. A link I had for them does not now work. There is a brief list of major features in the announcements for TMG 8 and TMG 9, which is in the Announcements section at the top of this forum. There is a detailed change log for version 8.01 and later available from the Update Center. There is a link to that in the Other Resources section of this forum, but of course that misses the major features added with 8.00.
  5. Worth upgrading to V9 from v7

Shaundm, Yes, I think it's worth it. However, that doesn't matter because so far as I know there are no longer any licenses available anywhere. Wholly Genes stopped selling them last September, and everyone I know of who still had some for sale have since sold out.
  6. Same-Sex Couples

Eva, Entering the marriage is not an issue - you get a warning, but the tag is entered. However, you cannot make two people of the same sex the primary parents of a child. The only way I know to do that is to change the sex flag for one of the parents, which can cause issues in some reports. Maybe someone else has a better idea.
  7. Descendant indented chart problem

Kaye, You mention my name, but I assume you recognized it was Michael that provided this thorough info, and it's him you will send further details to.
  8. Descendant indented chart problem

No, not at all. I'm saying that there is no guarantee that you can get the same exact result when creating a chart from TMG 8 or 9 as you got from an earlier version. It has nothing to do with which version entered the data. Was when? With which version of TMG? Before when? With TMG 8 or an earlier version? I expect it's the same as version 8. It's the same report engine, and I think that's what Michael used. What is the chart you sent me? Is it made with TMG8? How is it different than what you are objecting to?
  9. Descendant indented chart problem

Kaye, First, if the old chart was done with a TMG version before 8, it has no bearing on the current situation. The report writer was totally re-written for TMG 8. What you sent me was not an actual chart but a paste into an email message, and you asked be not to post it. I don't know what more we can do. Michael has said he can replicate the issue with the current report writer, so I seen no solution other than those he suggested. Terry
  10. Serialnumber lost

I just saw that the supply held by the Arlington RUG are now all gone.
  11. Descendant indented chart problem

Kaye, I don't think the issue is in the Project files, especially since you say you see it in the Sample Project, but I don't know where it really is. I was hoping that Jim would jump in with an idea but he hasn't yet. Before you re-install I'd suggest you initialize the Report Definition for this report. Do that by opening the Report definition and clicking the Reset Defaults button at the top left. If that doesn't work you can try re-installing, which should be OK but I don't have high confidence will be the solution.
  12. List of 3rd 4th and 5th cousins

Brian, The Kinship report is mentioned briefly on page 84. What tutorial are you looking for? I don't think you will find one because that report works pretty much like all the other "genealogy reports" described in Chapter 9. You set the subject and number of generations as described there, and could set source notes as described if you wanted them. The settings for Tags don't apply since there are no tags displayed in this report. General setup of the report, including specifying output to screen, printer, or file, is the same as all other reports, and is described in Chapter 7. This isn't hard. Make yourself the focus in the Details window, open the Kinship Report definition from the Reports menu, make sure the "Use the Current Focus Person" box near the top is checked, and click the Create Report button and see what happens. Then change the "Report Destination" settings or click Options and explore the settings there and try again until you get what you want.
  13. Descendant indented chart problem

Kaye, The father should appear as parent of the children in the chart if there is a parent/child relationship, and it is made Primary in the child's view. Have you verified that this tag exists for each child? As far as the order of the "families" - the "marriage" tag has to 1) be in the Marriage Group, and 2) have a sort date. Are your Partner and De Facto tags in the Marriage group or the Other Events group? But the father won't appear in the chart at all if he has no children attached - the chart is about descendants, not spouses. So "spouses" only appear when required to display descendants. Terry
  14. List of 3rd 4th and 5th cousins

Brian, The Kinship report will do that for you. If you want only those distant cousins you will have to send the report to a word processor and delete the nearer ones.
  15. Descendant indented chart problem

Kay, I suspect, though I'm not sure, that the "families" are sorted by the sort date of the marriage group tag for the parents. With no marriage tag this one gets sorted last. So changing the linkage of the child to mother won't help. I think the easy solution is to send the chart to Word, and edit it manually.
  16. Renumbering in Merged Projects

Hunter, You imported a GEDCOM into a new Project, right? Then you merged that Project with your existing Project, right? You then had two Data Sets within your original Project, which you did not Merge, right? The two data sets are totally separate - you cannot number the people in them as if they were one Data Set. You need to now Merge the two Data Sets. That will result in one Data Set with everyone in it, and still a second which is unchanged. You then want to delete that Data Set. For details on doing this, and getting the right people in the right Data Set, see my article on Merging Projects and Data Sets.
  17. Dick, If you downloaded it recently from this site it is version 9.05, not 9.03. If you actually have 9.03 you need to get the current version. Wholly Genes has not sold the program since last September. Last I heard a Dutch beta tester and dealer, Harry Goegebeur, still had a few licenses left. You can reach him at Harry.Goegebeur@genea.be and see if he still does and what his price is.
  18. Margaret, I've moved your post from the Practice Forum to this Section so others will find it. You do not need to upgrade incrementally, in fact you should have installed the current version. You can download the US edition from this link. Typical reasons for your registration number not being recognized are: 1. You used the serial number from a prior version, not the one for TMG9. 2. You used a newer email address rather than the one you used when you purchased TMG9. 3. You hand typed in the number rather than using copy and paste, and made a typing error.
  19. Partial merge

Robert, Don't use Merge, but instead put the 15 in a Focus Group then use Copy Persons.
  20. Unlock code for TMG V9

Yeleka, Do you have a question?
  21. Unlock code for TMG V9

Terry, Did you try it? That's the address at which I corresponded with him a month ago. Here it is again, copied of his email to me: Harry.Goegebeur@genea.be
  22. I think the font sizes are part of the Layout, so for them to apply next time you open TMG you have to save the Layout after making the settings.
  23. Unlock code for TMG V9

At last report beta tester and Dutch dealer Harry Goegebeur at Harry.Goegebeur@genea.be still had some ID's available. A number of users have reported that TMG 9 works on the current test builds of Windows 10, so the expectation is that it will work on the public release. I've not seen any reports on TMG 8, so can't say about that version, but it's not fundamentally different, so would expect so.
  24. Events not listed in proper order

Enid, Your issue has nothing to do with events not sorting, the topic of this thread. If you post your message in a new thread (use the "New Topic" button at the top of the main page of the TMG 9 section) with a title related to your problem you are much more likely to get a useful response.
