  1. Did that, but no change. Interestingly, had to run installer as administrator else it would not work. However, I cannot run TMG as administrator because it won't recognize my external drive, where I keep my data.
  2. I think I found the source of my printing problem, but don't knowhow to fix it: I get the following error message when attempting to print directly to the printer: OLE Error code 0x0040154: Class not registered How do I fix this?
  3. Glenn When I get to the report preview screen, the printer icon does not function. The only way I can direct output to a printer is to first send as a word or rtf format and not to the preview screen. I have noticed that when I generate a report, when the blue progress bars flash by there is one red bar that appears so fast I cannot see what the error message is. BTW: I am using OS X 10.11.3, Windows 7 and parallels 10
  4. To be filed in the "For what it is worth" category, in case anyone can come up with another procedure to try.... Still CANNOT send reports to a printer. CANNOT send reports to PDF file. CAN preview reports. CAN send reports to Rich text format or MS Word. CAN print help topics.
  5. Reorganizing Exhibits

I have started to reorganize my exhibits (all external) by re-naming them into a more standard format. For example: Old format for a death certificate was yyyy_mm_dd_fname lname of deceased_death certificate. New format: Lname Fname 'death certificate'_yyyy_mm_dd. Before, my naming convention was rather slapdash. (census records, fortunately , were already standardized) I'm doing this to keep are sources together by subject's name. Question: Is there an easier way to do this other than going to each individual record and re-attaching them? Thanks
  6. Reorganizing Exhibits

I figured as much. But the silver lining is that I discovered several exhibitsI ha not put into TMG. Plus, I also discovered that several US census's have related sets of families by marriage. What I am doing is making duplicates of the files, renaming them as appropriate, then replacing them for each individual. IN the case of the Census, I am making one copy for each family, with the name head of household in the file name, for ex: Instead of having "YYYY US Census of Gleason Wonder families", I am changing to "Gleason Robert family_YYYY US Census" and "Wonder Jose family_YYYY US Census", even if it is the same document. May have to do similar acts with my sources, but maybe not. I scored a breakthrough in my research so the number of documents mushroomed to where I needed to do this so as to keep family exhibits together in my computer. Because o this, I've stopped data entry until I get my house in order. Does this make me a lumper or a splitter? Thanks.
  7. Pics with frowns face

I noticed in a couple of my records that the some but not all external pics for the individuals showed the 'frowns face' in thumbnail view, but showed the actual image when I double click on it. I ran the missing link routine but nothing changed. I corrected the issue by deleting and reinserting the images, immediate problem solved. My questions are: what caused this to occur? Is the a report I can run that will find other such occurrences? Thanks.
  8. Pics with frowns face

Michael Once I've finished shoveling snow, I was able to follow your instructions. Refreshing the thumbnails do not resolve the issue. I was forced into reinserting all of the relevant exhibits one by one (all are and have been external). It was interesting that the images appeared as frown faces in the log, but when viewed in edit mode, and when on my focus screen for the individual (when flagged as primary image), the images appeared as normal. Ah well, the sweet mysteries of life. Thanks for your help.
  9. How do,others handle this situation. I have witnesses (friends) to an event (burial) that are not related. I had been adding them to my database but that results in 'orphans'. How do others treat these type of witnesses?
  10. Event witnesses not part of tree

Thanks. Thought so, but feel better having the option affirmed.
  11. Event witnesses not part of tree

The problem is that the individual's in question were just friends of the family attending the burial and definitely not a relation. Felt odd adding them to my database just to have them as witnesses.
  12. Ftdna bigY dna

i will be receiving Dan results from FTDNA Big y dna test. Will the DNA template handle these results or will a new template be needed?
  13. Ftdna bigY dna

    Ok, thanks
  14. People / data dump

TMG 9.05. I decided to start moving to Roots Magic 7as it seems to be the best fit for me, being an intermediate user at best. The data import went better than anticipated and I am starting the process of validating the data to make sure all is as well as I think. My question is: What is the best report or method to use in getting my TMG data (people, sources, exhibits, etc.) on paper to more easily compare with RootsMagic? Going back and forth between the two open programs is tedious and slow, having tried this with the DNA info. Thanks.
  15. People / data dump

Thanks Michael. Easy than what I had done, which was to delete and start over.
  16. People / data dump

Thanks Jim. Just received the registration email, installed SS, AND created the web site on my hard drive. Not knowing what I was doing and despite the great instructions, I made a few cosmetic mistakes but ....hey, I can always have a do over if I want.
  17. People / data dump

John Just purchased SS and am waiting for the follow-up email with instructions. Also printed your instructions and Terry's instructions so I am good to go when..... Question: Is the Family History Hosting you or some other service provider?
  18. People / data dump

Michael Thanks. That is what I will do.
  19. People / data dump

John Thanks for the idea. Since I've never used as it was not an option I had thought of. I assume by non-published site, you mean being in a dvd, correct?
  20. People / data dump

Thanks. My use of TMG was simple and basic so I believe I won't need as much prep / cleanup,as more sophisticated users such as yourself. Random check,of records shows all info allocated to the persons is correct (so far). I'll start on the master lists and notes fields. And take it from there.
  21. TMG 9 with Windows 10 and Parallels 11

Thanks. Guess i'll find out for sure the old fashioned way.
  22. TMG 9 with Windows 10 and Parallels 11

Glenn I have a follow up question relating to this discussion. Does installing Windows 10 in this manner replace the existing VM with the installed software, like TMG, such as TMG, migrated? Or does it create a new one where the software needs to be reinstalled? Thanks.
  23. I followed instructions to th letter and still printing issue remains the same. I guess I have to stick with the work around. Just for kicks, I tried starting TMG as admin afterwards, just to see if that made a difference and could load the project because windows could not see my disk. Strange, but strange is getting to be the new norm. Thanks for your assistance.
  24. Glenn The workaround worked. I guess I'll have to live with this. As an aside, while cleaning up the PDF printer, I found three version soft the CDINTF400.dll file. I deleted the windows\system32\spool\drive\x64\3 windows\systemwow64 windows\system32\spool\drive\x64 I deleted all three but were reinstalled with the pdf printer.
