Neil 0 Report post Posted December 22, 2011 Is there a way to create a report list of baptisms at one church? I know how to filter that group but not have the dates of baptisms show up. All I would like in the list is the person's name and date of baptism for one particular church. The name of the church would be in the title.
Terry Reigel 0 Report post Posted December 22, 2011 Neil, You should be able to do this with the List of Events report. A filter like this should work: Tag Type ... Label =Equals BAPTISM AND Place L2 Contains ST JOSEPHS END where you change to place to enough of the name of the church to be unique. If necessary, you could add a third term with Place L3 and include the city. Then in Options, go to the Output Columns tab and specify that you want the name of Prin 1 and date, and anything else you want to include.

Is there a way to have the witnessed baptism show up in the report? I selected "Tag Type sentence witness" and added witnesses to the baptism event, but the witness names don't show up. Also is there a way to make the format of the report look better? Like the date title is left justified with periods after it while the dates below the DATE is right justified. Terry Reigel 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2011 You're welcome, Neil. I don't think there is a way to get baptisms in which a person was a witness. You can't output witnesses in the List of Events report because there can be an unlimited number of them - that's not very compatible with the list format. The "List of..." reports are generally considers working reports, rather than finished output, so have limited ability to control formatting. But you could output to Word and pretty it up if you want to.
Neil 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2011 Well, that wasn't the answer I was hoping for. You know what I mean about one or more persons who witnessed another being baptised. It seems that, in my case, the two witnesses would come through into the report just as the event did. But it didn't and I couldn't find any other kind of witness to select other than the one I did. Besides if you don't know, then who would? You are the go-to guy.
Virginia Blakelock 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2011 Can you use a List of Witnesses report? That lists all the witnesses to the event, includes the date, and indicates when the witness was the principal. Whatever kind of List report you decide on, an easy way to dress it up (in Word) is to separate the columns into logical groups if the info lends itself to that - and shade the top line in each group as in the screenshot below. The example list is pretty crude and you'd have to work out a sort order - but it may give you some ideas. In a list of baptisms you could shade the baptised person, followed by the names of the witnesses. Virginia
Terry Reigel 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2011 I looked at the List of Witnesses report, but couldn't figure out a way to make it useful in this case. You can get a list of everyone who is entered in a Baptism tag. That includes everyone in the broad definition of a Witness, which includes principals. But I don't see any way to get the date or location of the baptism into either the filter, or the output. Am I missing something?
Virginia Blakelock 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2011 Terry - As you know, I don't use witnesses - so am out of my element here - but it looks to me like you have the same tag type label and place filters as well as column options as in the List of Events. No way to parlay that into a List of Baptisms? I guess not or you would have figured it out - Virginia
Terry Reigel 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2011 Virginia, Well, that goes to show I've never used the List of Witnesses report. :-/ It looks like you can indeed filter for a specific event, then include the name of the witness and the name of the Principal. A filter like this works if you want just the witnesses and not the principal: Tag Type... Label =Equals BAPTISM AND Place L2 Contains ST. JOHNS AND Witness Is Not a Principal
JanisR 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2011 (edited) I like sending List of.. Reports to Excel. Then I can make the fields much longer without worrying that some of the data will be truncated. You can just slide the columns to fit the data, switch to landscape if needed, etc. Jan Edited December 23, 2011 by JanisR
JanisR 0 Report post Posted December 23, 2011 Well, you _can_ create a List of People for people whose "Witnessed Baptism" more than 0 tags and have a "Witnessed Baptism" tag with St Josephs contained in the place field. You have to drill way down in the list to the "Witnessed..." tags. There is one for each event tag I believe. However, I do not like the output from the report because, being a List of People, it does not identify the specific tag. I much prefer the output of Virginia & Terry's List of Witnesses. You can include the same kind of information as the List of Events, plus the Witnesses and include an output a column with the name of P1 so your list will identity both of the witnesses and the person whose baptism they witnessed.
