nbradley 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2012 Last night I imported my FTM database as it was in 2004 (Version 8 I think - .ftw) into TMG version 8 as an experiment. I didn't appear to have the option of mapping the FTM equivalent of custom tags (.e.g. Ticket of Leave date for an ex-convict) to my custom tags in TMG. I appeared to be restricted to standard tags only. Have I done something wrong? Would I have greater flexibility exporting from FTM to gedcom first?
Jim Byram 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2012 Any FTM custom tag should appear as a new custom tag of the same name in TMG. If you want to map, it will need to be done via GEDCOM.

Michael Hannah 0 Report post Posted November 21, 2012 While you cannot map during Import, once you have a TMG project you can use the TMG Utility feature "Change Event Type" to change all instances of event type "a" to event type "b". So you could export all your custom tag types from an existing TMG project, import them into the TMG project that was built from your FTM data, then use the utility to change all those FTM tag types to a TMG tag type. Hope this gives you ideas,
