jecspasc 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2008 After installing V7, backing up my V6 project and restoring the backup to V7, I closed TMG V7. The next time that I opened it, it loaded my project, displayed the Tips & Hints window and started retrieving messages. The progress bar got to 20% and stopped. My cursor disappeared. The only way I could get out of this situation was to ctl-alt-del, then use the Windows Task Manager to kill TMG. It was showing as not responding. This happens every time that I start TMG V7. I am still able to open TMG V6. My operating system is Windows XP Professional. Thanks, Jim Campbell Spartanburg, SC
Virginia Blakelock 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2008 Have you tried loading TMG when you are not connected to the Internet? Sometimes that will allow the program to start up without the delay. Once the program opens, go into Preferences > 'Startup and Exit' and change the days to 0 for checking for Messages. In that case, you may want to check for messages manually from Help - so you don't miss any important announcements. Let us know if that does not help - Virginia

However, if I use Help > Message Manager, I get the same Progress window and TMG hangs at 20% I scanned through the messages on this forum and didn't find another report of this problem. What can I do assist Support in finding this problem Many thanks for your prompt response. Jim

Any Idea?
Virginia Blakelock 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2008 An important announcement may appear on the forum and on the tmg list. Many people, however, do not regularly access the forum or subscribe to the list. Additionally, a message - like a special offer from the WG store last year - may include a purchase code unique to the user. The Message Manager may also be used by WG to send messages of some immediacy - like a workaround for a problem in TMG. Virginia

I ran into the same thing when I first opened TMG after installing but in my case it moved past the 20% after several minutes, and now it works fine. You do want to make sure that your anti-virus, anti-spyware programs are set to allow TMG to access the internet. Virginia
Judy M. 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2008 (edited) Jim: As of this morning, I am having the same problem. I am about to try the "fix" that has been suggested. You're not alone. Nope, it didn't work. I am unable to use TMG at all. Hmmmm, maybe I didn't do the "fix" properly. I have a wireless connection to the Internet. So while I wasn't "on" the Internet when I tried opening TMG -- i.e., Internet Explorer was closed -- I'm always "connected." I'll have to play with this some more.) Okay. I disabled my wireless connection. The Progress window went to 100% and I was then able to change my preferences and use TMG. WHEW! Edited January 16, 2008 by Judy M. Derek Cornish 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2008 Jim: As of this morning, I am having the same problem. I am about to try the "fix" that has been suggested. You're not alone. I can confirm that this is still a current problem with TMG 7.03 eight months later. But the fix still works, too, so I thought I should bump this.
