Drop down menu

Gold 6.12

When I click on any drop down menu in any tag entry screen, the tag label appears to the left of the box in a blue box, ie. City=City (I don't see a way to attach a screen, on this forum so you can see it.)

But nothing changes in the box.

Thanks

Nothing changes in the box because what you see is the "Standard Place Style" or the "Standard Name Style" - which cannot be changed.

In case you want to use different labels for the various style fields you need to create a "Custom Place Style" or a "Custom Name Style".

Say Tools > Master Style List

According to the example you provided above in the window "Master Style List" check Style type "Places" and say "Add".

Now you're seeing the window "Edit Place Style" where Label 3 equals "City."

Point with the mouse cursor on "City" and right-click and say "Modify Labels of this Level" > the "Edit Labels" window appears.

Click on "Add" and i.e. type "Town" and OK.

When you now click on the drop-down button next to "City" in the "Edit Place Style" window you will notice the two choices "City" as well as "Town".

I hope that was what you've been asking for.

Don't forget to give your custom place style a specific name.

Ahhh... I think I understand what you are looking for. Place your cursor in the box and press F3 and you will get the last value entered in that field, or press F3 repeatedly to cycle through older entries, or press -F3 and you will get a list of the last 15 entries for that field. Is this what you are looking for?

For further details, see the TMG Help under the topic "Repeat Keys".

Hope this gives you ideas,

Yep, the drop down menu button you are looking at does something useful, just something very different that what you expected.

I thought when I click on a drop down arrow it would produce a list or other previous entries.

You can get that by placing the cursor in the field and pressing F2. A list of previous entries appears, and you can start typing to scroll to the right one. This applies to almost all fields, not just place fields. But there is a special rule for place fields - if you select a value from the list that includes higher-ranking values, they are applied to their respective fields as well.

The F3 repeat function Michael mentioned also applies in almost all fields - difference between it and F2 is it brings up the most recent 15 values in reverse order, not all values in alphabetical order.
