Declare DLL call caused an exception 1014 GBMAIN
oorsini replied to Kees Hessels's topic in The Master Genealogist v9
I am also trying to import a Legacy v8 database, even the sample database returns an error. I specifically am getting the error "Declare DLL call caused an exception 1023 GBMAIN". I saw your response Jim, saying Legacy v8 is not supported. Is there any plans to add support for the Legacy v8 format? I was specifically hoping to regularly import my legacy v8 databases just like I did with Legacy v7. I can try the GEDCOM import option as you suggest but I am worried about loss of fidelity with that approach. Would you say I should expect an equivalent import with GEDCOM? or is there most likely going to be a loss of information as compared to a native Legacy import? Thanks for your help. I am using Family Tree SuperTools v2 and have imported from Legacy 7.5. I am printing reports where I have included the data tag "DeathCause* Memo" under Box Contents. The problem is that the tag doesn't print for descendant and ancestor reports. It does seem to inconsistently print on hourglass reports. Alternatively I have selected data tag "DeathCause* Label: Memo" and this tag seems to work perfectly on all reports. This is a good workaround for me so not looking for an immediate fix but letting you know that some of the "DeathCause" data tags are not working on reports.

I had some additional challenges with the DeathCause tag printing on all my reports this week when I was doing my yearly print of our genealogy reports. Through experimenting further I figured out a better workaround and verfied further aspects of this issue I see. What I have discovered is that every time I create a new Project and reimport from Legacy into the new FTST2 project, the DeathCause tags are broken on all reports. Now all I need to do is go into the Data Type panel for each type of person on each type of report and reset the DeathCause tag "DeathCause* Label: Memo". All other tags are working fine and there is no difference between DeathCause* Memo or DeathCause* Label: Memo, they both have this issue. One potential theory is that I have a lot of invalid Death dates in my family tree and maybe they are causing corruption during the import. I will fix these when I get a chance and see if this is causing the issue. BTW, thanks for the additional testing you did on this issue to verify that this tag SHOULD be working correctly.

I have loaded a Family Tree SuperTools v2 project from a Legacy 7.5 file. Within Legacy I maintain alternate names for some individuals. It appears as if alternate names are correctly imported as I can view a few while viewing individuals. However, under report options > Data Types > box contents > tag types, I can't find any tag that will print the alternate names. Is there a tag which will print this in the charts? Thanks, Occhio

How To Display alternate names in reports?
oorsini replied to oorsini's topic in Family Tree SuperTools
Thanks for the hint about pressing the asterisk key, I didn't know about that. Because I am importing from Legacy, the data set is locked and I can't seem to unlock it. So it doesn't appear that I can press the asterisk key on an alternate property. BTW, the property that contains the alternate name is "Name-Var". Thanks for suggestion to look at Visual Chartform forum. - Occhio -
Thanks for all the suggestions! Actually after the import, only the chart reports are enabled in my environment. I presume there is no carriage returns at the beginning of the memo as they print without a carriage return when I use "DeathCause* Label: Memo". I haven't found anything else to change yet that would resolve the above issue.
