Hello
I have a new computer
It runs Windows 8
My version of TMG will not run on Windows 8
I had to buy TMG 9
I can't import projects into TMG 9.1
The screen says:
I need to make a back up from TMG 6 and then I will be able to 'restore' 'import' the project.

I have the files already, but still I get the above screen!
I cannot run TMG 6 on Windows 8.
I am EXTREMELY frustrated.
I have spent hours on this.
I have tried import gedcoms, and pjc's and etc.
Nothing works.
Help please.
Thank you.
Janice
P.S.I am an experienced user of TMG, have had the program since the 1990's, and with software and gen programs in general.  I have never been so...well, words fail.

Hi Janice,

Sorry you are so frustrated.

I assume from your post that you previously had TMG Version 6.  Is that right?

And you did do a "Backup" of the TMG 6 project so that you have the ".sqz" file?

Assuming the above is true, you do NOT "Import" the ".sqz" file.

Instead, on either the File Menu or the Welcome screen you choose "Restore".

That will pop up a standard Windows window where you can find and select the ".sqz" file that is the backup.

Select and Open that file and it should update and create your project as a Version 9 project.

Hope this helps.  If not, keep asking.  We will try to help.

Michael, thank you.  It worked. I should have asked earlier instead of trying to tough it out.

Maybe some of the procedures are different in the newer versions.  I really did try to import and restore with geds and pjc and at least once with sqz files, I just must have not put the sqz. into the right place.

Thank you so much.

Janice

Happy I could help, Janice.

Yes, there are a number of differences between Verson 6 and Version 9.  Don't hesitate to ask questions in the future.  One of us users will be glad to help.  This Forum is officially run by Wholly Genes, but don't forget to sometimes ask questions on the user maintained e-mail list.  See:

<http://lists.rootswe...ftware/TMG.html>  While some of us users answer on both sites, the TMG-L list generally has more users offering answers from "their way" of doing things.  Both can be helpful.
