Kwykoff 0 Report post Posted September 22, 2015 Hoping to find out about upgrading to Parallels 11 and going to Windows 10. I have the latest edition of TMG and now running Parallels 10 and Windows 7. Has anyone upgraded to the more recent versions of Parallels and Windows? I understand that if I upgrade to Windows 10, then I probably need to get Parallels 11. But I want to make sure they don't cause any issues with TMG 9.05. Thanks. ggilbert1 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2015 (edited) I upgraded to Parallels 11 but I'm still using Win 8.1, even with P11 the Windows 10 upgrade advisor will tell you the VM's graphics device is not compatible, however there is an Upgrade to Windows 10 button on the P11Action Menu, which starts a upgrade wizard... This Wizard will walk you through the process to upgrade your existing Windows virtual machine to Windows 10. Follow the steps in order to ensure a successful upgrade. Step 1. Download the Windows 10 .exe installation media. Step 2. Install Windows I'm in no rush to get Win 10, the only Windows programs I use are TMG, TMG Utility, SecondSite, and a program that converts .csv files to HTML. Kwykoff 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2015 Thanks Glenn. Just to make sure I understand.... upgrading to Parallels 11 has worked fine for you with Win 8.1. However there is a disclaimer that the Virtual Machine's graphics device is not compatible with Win 10? Can you tell me how that might effect things? If I'm going to get Win 10, I want to get it while it's still a free upgrade. I also use only the same Windows programs as you (except for the .csv converter) plus a couple of small utilities similar to your converter. Have you heard of anyone else's experience who has tried to use W10, P11 and TMG?
ggilbert1 0 Report post Posted September 23, 2015 (edited) If you attempt to upgrade from Windows 7 or 8 working inside the virtual machine you will receive this notice: "Windows 10 will not run on this PC" error due to the issue with Parallels Display Adapter (WDDM) See the Parallels Knowledge Base article with the same title http://kb.parallels.com/en/123053 Article ID: 123053 Created On: Jun 18, 2015 Last Review: Sep 16, 2015 APPLIES TO: Parallels Desktop 11 for Mac Parallels Desktop 10 for Mac Parallels Desktop for Mac Pro Edition Parallels Access Cause You receive this warning due to the fact that the Parallels Display Adapter driver is not included to the list of drivers compatible for Windows 10 Update. The KB article goes on to give instructions on how to proceed. P11 includes a Windows 10 upgrade wizard to get you started in the process. There is a link in the wizard that takes you to the Win 10 installation file download, the other link in the wizard takes you to another KB article How to upgrade my virtual machine to Windows 10? http://kb.parallels.com/122884 If you have the latest build of Parallels 10 (10.2.2-29105) you can upgrade to Win 10 by following the steps in either KB article so upgrading to P11 isn't necessary. P11 is ready for OS X El Capitan has performance improvements and support for MS Cortana http://www.parallels.com/news/parallels-desktop-11-aug-19-2015/ The free upgrade to Win 10 from Win 7/8 will be available until the end of July 2016, so there is time. I have not heard from anyone running TMG in a virtual machine that has upgraded to Win 10. FWIW I have a friend that has a fairly recent Dell computer he gets a similar warning from the Win 10 upgrade ... drivers are not compatible, he contacted Microsoft Support and was told that they are "working on updating drivers, they will be available later, then you'll be able to upgrade." Does that mean the Win 10 upgrade is still a work in progress or did MS support just blow him off? Only time will tell. rlgleason51 0 Report post Posted September 24, 2015 Glenn I have a follow up question relating to this discussion. Does installing Windows 10 in this manner replace the existing VM with the installed software, like TMG, such as TMG, migrated? Or does it create a new one where the software needs to be reinstalled? Thanks.
ggilbert1 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2015 I have not done it, but I believe it should simply upgrade the operating system like an upgrade to Win 10 would do on a PC.

elm570 0 Report post Posted October 29, 2015 I have just upgraded to Windows 10 and Parallels 11. I opened TMG in the usual way (with trepidation). On first attempt the program did not open. On second attempt it has opened and appears to be working fine. I haven't input or changed data yet.
